Decorreu no passado dia 18 de abril no auditório e no átrio do Edifício Pedagógico 1 da ESAD.CR a 7ª edição do PAR que, no âmbito da atividade regular de investigação que faz em torno do conceito de ‘representação’, promoveu um dia de conferências sobre o tema Objeto(s).

Last April 18, in the auditorium and the lobby of EP1 of ESAD.CR, took place the 7th edition of the PAR that, within its regular research activity on the concept of ‘representation’, held a conference day on the subject “Object (s)”.

Este ano, o grupo apresentou o resultado do trabalho de 8 docentes nas áreas das artes plásticas (David Santos e Samuel Rama), design (Fernando Poeiras, Philip Cabau e Teresa Luzio) e teatro (Luís Castro e Pedro Ramos).

This year, the group presented the results of the work of eight teachers in the areas of Fine Arts (David Santos and Samuel Rama), Design (Fernando Poeiras, Philip Cabau and Teresa Luzio) and Theater (Luis Castro and Pedro Ramos).

O painel das apresentações incluiu uma convidada externa, Fabiana Wielewicki, da Universidade do Porto, que apresentou um paper em parceria com Teresa Luzio, e com o trabalho-performance do docente Pedro Ramos que dançou em público interagindo com um pêndulo suspenso do teto a uma altura de 5 metros.

For the presentations panel Fabiana Wielewicki, from University of Porto, was invited. She presented a paper with Teresa Luzio, and with the work-performance of Pedro Ramos who danced in public interacting with a pendulum suspended from the ceiling to a height of XXX meters.

The President of the IPL – Nuno Mangas joined this initiative and stressed the importance of this kind of event for the school and the IPL.

Tudo estava pronto para dar início a entrega dos tão desejados prémios. Este ano, mais uma vez, a plateia foi presenteada com a manifestação de trabalhos artística de alto nível.

Everything was ready to begin the delivery of the much-desired prizes. This year, once again, the audience was presented with the display of high level art work.

Antes da cerimónia de entrega de prémio, os alunos foram premiados com uma ementa especialmente preparada para esta ocasião. Mais uma vez o apoio do Serviço de Ação Social do IPL foi exímio. Muito obrigada.

Before the award ceremony, students were rewarded with a menu specially prepared for this occasion. Once again the support of the Department of Social Action of the IPL was masterful. Thank you.

Comunicar Design 2012

O evento foi organizado por alunos e docentes do curso de Design Gráfico e Multimédia, contando já com 8 edições. A 9ª edição decorreu nos dias 29, 30 e 31 de Maio de 2012 nas instalações da ESAD.CR.

The event was organized by students and teachers from Graphic Design and Multimedia, and it had already eight editions. The 9th edition took place on 29, 30 and 31 May 2012 at the premises of ESAD.CR.

O Comunicar Design visa refletir sobre design, seus conteúdos e intervenientes — designers, sociedade e mercado — através de conferências, masterclasses, workshops, exposições e uma feira de objetos de autor.

Comunicar Design aims to reflect on design, its contents and players – designers, society and market – through lectures, masterclasses, workshops, exhibitions and a market of author’s objects.

O programa é desenhado para estimular a criatividade e a partilha de experiências entre alunos, profissionais e docentes. Pretendeu complementar a componente letiva e, providenciar inspiração através da revelação de práticas e competências em diferentes momentos e áreas do design de comunicação, contribuindo para um maior enriquecimento do conhecimento e competências dos alunos.

The program is designed to stimulate creativity and the sharing of experiences among students, professionals and teachers. The event intends to complement the class component and provide inspiration through the revelation of practices and skills at different times and areas of communication design, contributing to a higher enrichment of knowledge and skills of students.

Para a 9.ª edição, o tema foi EXPAND, cujo objetivo foi o de trazer à reflexão e à partilha os diversos caminhos possíveis no que concerne às referências inspiracionais (expand inspiration), à gestão do percurso profissional no domínio criativo (expand creativity) e à forma que cada um tem de perspectivar o futuro da comunicação visual, quer no âmbito criativo como no tecnológico (expand horizons).

For this 9th edition, the theme was EXPAND, whose goal was to bring to reflection and sharing the various possible ways with respect to inspirational references (expand inspiration), the management of a creative career in the field (expand creativity) and the way each one has to look to the future of visual communication, both within the creative and technological areas (expand horizons).

Este ano, um dos motes foi expandir horizontes através da experiência dos diferentes agentes criativos convidados para as conferências, masterclasses e workshops questionando sobre os vários fenómenos que se interligam e complementam quando refletimos sobre criatividade no contexto profissional.

This year, one of the mottos was expanding horizons through the experience of different creative agents invited to the conferences, master classes and workshops questioning the various phenomena which intertwine and complement when we reflect on creativity in a professional context.

Os participantes ouviram vários profissionais da área do design nomeadamente: HEY Studio (ES) | Verònica Fuerte, natural de Barcelona, é co-fundadora do Hey Studio em 2007; Danny Sangra (UK) | O polímata da criatividade; R2 (PT) | Lizá Ramalho e Artur Rebelo fundaram o estúdio de design R2; P-06 (PT) | Pedro Anjos e Nuno Gusmão são co-fundadores do Atelier P-06 em 2006 MAGA (PT) | Mendes, Alvoeiro, Guerreiro, José Mendes, Luís Alvoeiro e Carlos Guerreiro, um atelier de design em Lisboa; IVITY (PT) | Ricardo Gaspar diretor criativo na Ivity, uma empresa de criação e gestão de marcas; Oficina do Cego (PT) | A Oficina do Cego é uma associação sem fins lucrativos que desenvolve trabalho no domínio das artes gráficas e Impression Global (PT) | A Impression Portugal, faz parte do maior grupo europeu de impressão em grande formato.

Receção aos novos alunos da ESAD.CR||Reception of new students at ESAD.CR

“Sobrinhos aos Molhos” foi o mote deste ano 2012/2013 na receção aos novos alunos da ESAD.CR.
This year’s motto for the reception of new students at ESAD.CR was “A lot of Nephews”.

Os diversos eventos foram organizados pela Associação de Estudantes da ESAD.CR. Os novos alunos tiveram uma semana cheia de emoções.

The various events were organized by the Student Association of ESAD.CR. New students had a week full of emotions.

A Receção aos Sobrinhos foi feita, como todos os anos (pelo menos há 4 anos que dura esta lista), depois da chegada dos alunos da 3ª fase.

The Nephews were received, like every year (at least for the last 4 years), after the arrival of 3rd phase students.

A cada novo aluno que participou no leilão foi entregue um Kit de Primeiros Socorros. O kit continha:
– 1 T-shirt caso precisassem de mudar de roupa,
– 1 Vela para iluminar o caminho caso ficasse muito escuro,
– 1 Isqueiro para acender a vela,
– 2 Pins,
– 1 Saco de papel para emergências gástricas,
– Talões de desconto em alguns bares.

Every new student who participated in the auction was handed a First Aid Kit. The kit contained:
– 1 T-shirt if they needed to change clothes,
– 1 candle to light the way if it got too dark,
– 1 lighter to light the candle,
– 2 Pins,
– 1 paper bag for gastric emergencies,
– Discount Coupons in some bars.

A Carolina Ribeiro, presidente da Associação de Estudantes, refere que os objetivos deste ano foram atingidos nomeadamente a inserção dos alunos na ESAD.CR e na Cidade, este foi o foco de atenção da receção. No mesmo dia da receção foi feito um Leilão e um Jantar com os Donos, terminando com uma festa nos Silos. No dia seguinte (terça-feira) à tarde fizemos uma Jam Session no Centro da Juventude com início do Rally Tascas, terminando a noite na discoteca Parque.

Carolina Ribeiro, president of the Student Association, states that “the objectives have been achieved this year, particularly the inclusion of students in ESAD.CR and in the City. On the same day of the reception, there was an Auction and a Dinner with the Owners, ending with a party in Silos. The next day (Tuesday), on the afternoon we made a Jam Session at the Youth Center beginning with Rally Taverns, ending the night at the disco Park.

Na quarta-feira foi o dia critico pois devido à chuva tivemos de alterar toda a programação, impossibilitando a realização da Procissão do Falo e do respetivo Batismo. Também tínhamos uma festa no CCC que foi adiada devido à falta de condições para a realização do evento. Passamos assim esta festa para o Parqe. Quinta-feira foi o Jantar dos Sobrinhos organizada pelos Serviços de Ação Social e a festa na ESAD.CR, a maior festa da receção!

Wednesday was a critical day, since due to the rain we had to change all programming, preventing the completion of the Procession of the Phallus and the respective Baptism. We also had a party at the CCC which was postponed due to lack of conditions for the event. We changed the location to the Park. Thursday we had the Nephews’ Dinner, organized by the Social Services, and a party at ESAD.CR, the biggest party of the reception!

Pretendemos dar continuidade a eventos relacionados com a Receção aos Sobrinhos, como a Procissão do Falo, uma festa de inserção aos alunos de ERASMUS. A receção no fundo dura o ano inteiro pois estamos sempre presentes para receber e apoiar os novos alunos. O meu mandato acaba em Dezembro e não me vou recandidatar, portanto até lá iremos fazer tudo o que for necessário.

We intend to continue the events related to the Nephews’ Reception, such as the Procession of the Phallus and a party for the inclusion of ERASMUS students. After all, the reception lasts the whole year since we’re always available to receive and support new students. My mandate ends in December and I will not reapply, so until then we will do whatever is necessary.

Este ano achei os estudantes mais abertos, talvez por termos conseguido alcançar o objetivo da receção. Por exemplo, colocámos t-shirts a dizer “staff + o nosso nome” para eles se sentirem à vontade em comunicar, preguntar, etc… Parecem-me mais abertos a sugerir coisas, mais sociáveis, é bom sinal, reflete que o nosso trabalho foi bem feito e que estão dispostos a dinamizar a escola e a cidade o que é bom sinal para o futuro destas novas gerações”.

This year I thought students were more open, perhaps we managed to achieve the goal of reception. For example, we had t-shirts saying “staff + our name” for them to feel at ease communicating with us … It seem to me that they’re more open to suggesting things, more sociable. It’s a good sign, reflecting that our work was well done and they are willing to boost the school and the city which is a good sign for the future of the new generations.”

[Curso de Artes Plásticas/// Fine Arts course]

A edição da Exposição de Finalistas 2011/2012 foi repartida por dois momentos. Num primeiro momento expuseram os cursos de Design de Ambientes, Design Gráfico e Multimédia e Som e Imagem. Os trabalhos estiveram patentes de 16 a 27 de julho nas instalações da escola.

This year’s edition of the Exhibition was divided into two seasons. The first season, from July 16 to 27, showcased the courses of Environmental Design, Graphic and Multimedia Design and Sound and Image.

Num segundo momento foi a vez dos cursos de Artes Plásticas, Design Cerâmica e Vidro e Design Industrial de 24 se Setembro a 7 de outubro na ESAD.CR.

The second, from September 24 to October 7, displayed the courses of Fine Arts, Ceramics and Glass Design and Industrial Design.

A Exposição de finalistas da ESAD.CR é um marco na história da escola. A primeira exposição de finalistas tinha só como expositores alunos de Artes Plásticas mas devido a dimensão que todos os cursos começavam a ter, foi tomada a decisão que a exposição de finalistas deveria abranger todos os cursos, e assim é desde dessa época.

The Final Year Students Exhibition of ESAD.CR is a milestone in school history. The very first exhibition showcased only the works of Fine Arts students. However, due to the dimension the others courses achieved, it was decided that the exhibition should include all courses, and so it is since that time.

A exposição já esteve patente em diferentes sítios, tais como nos Silos ou no Centro Cultural das Caldas da Rainha, entre outros. No intuito de abrir a escola à comunidade externa, permitindo assim que os visitantes pudessem visualizar os trabalhos no local da sua execução e conhecer o ambiente que se vive na escola, a exposição passou a ser realizada nas instalações da ESAD.CR.

The exhibition has been held in several places, such as the Silos or the Cultural Centre of Caldas da Rainha. In order to open the school to the community, allowing visitors to appreciate the art works at the site of its execution and be familiar with the school environment, the exhibition started being held at ESAD.CR’s premises.

Esta iniciativa permite que os alunos mostrem os seus trabalhos no culminar de um percurso académico de 3 anos. A iniciativa surge também como um balanço em forma de leitura pessoal, clarificando e demonstrando a liberdade de expressão criativa, patente na diversidade dos trabalhos expostos.

This initiative allows students to display their works, at the end of an academic journey that lasts 3 years. The initiative has also emerged as an appraisal for the creative freedom, evident in the diversity of works displayed.

No dia 17 de Outubro foi com muita satisfação que a ESAD.CR realizou uma reunião de boas vindas aos novos alunos estrangeiros.

On 17 October it was with great satisfaction that ESAD.CR held a meeting to welcome new students.

É a primeira vez que a ESAD.CR recebe tantos alunos Incoming. O grupo deste ano é composto por 39 estudantes oriundos de vários pontos da Europa e do Brasil.

It is the first time that ESAD.CR receives so many Incoming students. This year we received 39 students from various European countries and also from Brazil.

As nacionalidades dos nossos alunos são: Espanha (9), Alemanha (5), Letónia (6), Brasil (6), Eslovénia (3), Polónia (1), Finlândia (1), Irlanda (1), Noruega (2), Turquia (4) e Bélgica (1).

The nationalities of our students are: Spain (9), Germany (5), Latvia (6), Brazil (6), Slovenia (3), Poland (1), Finland (1), Ireland (1), Norway (2), Turkey (4) and Belgium (1).

Regresso do Caldas Late Night em LOW COST! Foi nos dias 25 e 26 de Maio de 2012.

Este ano tudo começou com uma corrida de carrinhos de rolamentos. Numa rua junto ao cemitério das Caldas da Rainha, a polícia fechou o trânsito para se realizar esta espetacular corrida, com carros alusivos ao símbolo das Caldas! Não vamos mencionar qual é porque todos devem saber qual é!

This year it all started with a bearings car race. In a street, near the cemetery of Caldas da Rainha, police shut down traffic to make this spectacular race, with cars depicting the symbol of Caldas! We will not mention which is why since everyone should know what is!

Depois seguiu-se um arraial na praça de touros das Caldas da Rainha. Não pensam que é a brincar, sim foi um verdadeiro arraial com febras e tudo!! E claro não faltou a musiquinha de ambiente!!!! Nada melhor para descontrair que uma bela moda à portuguesa!

Next there was a fair in the bullring of Caldas da Rainha. It was a real traditional fair with pork leg and everything else! And music of course!! Nothing better to unwind than a nice Portuguese fair!

Depois de todo este relato de festa, temos que nos voltar um pouco para o objetivo principal do Caldas late Night. O Caldas Late Night é um evento artístico-cultural realizado no Município das Caldas da Rainha.

O Caldas Late Night transforma as ruas da cidade e as casas de todos os participantes em autênticos museus.

After all this account of the party, we must go back to the main objective of Caldas Late Night. It is a cultural-artistic event held in the city of Caldas da Rainha.

Caldas Late Night transforms the streets and homes of all participants in authentic museums.

Durante o evento, os participantes intervêm artisticamente em vários espaços da cidade, públicos e privados, envolvendo a cidade num ambiente de criatividade e florescimento sociocultural.

As várias atividades estiveram abertas ao público das 14h00 às 02h00 do dia 26.

During the event, participants involve themselves artistically in several areas of the city, public and private, involving the city in an environment of creativity and social and cultural flowering.

Various activities were open to the public from 2h00 p.m. to 02h00 a.m. on the 26th.

O Caldas late Night já é considerado um ex-líbris do país, este ano estima-se que estiveram presente mais de 8 000 pessoas, oriundos de todos os cantos do país.

E depois de tanta arte, é necessário relaxar. Vai mais uma festa para finalizar!

Caldas Late Night is already considered an ex-libris of the country. This year more than 8000 people from all over the country attended the event.

And after so much art, it is necessary to relax. We need another party!

À noite a organização do Caldas e o Maratona Café proporcionaram uma festa de arromba no espaço exterior da ESAD.CR. Com várias pistas de dança, espaços de lounge, vídeo projeções, e muitas outras atividades.

At night the organization of the event and the Maratona Café threw a party in the outer space of ESAD.CR with several dance floors, lounge spaces, video projections, and many other activities.

Terminamos dizendo que o Caldas Late Night é mesmo assim! Sempre a bombar!

Este evento consistiu na apresentação de trabalhos realizados pela turma do 2º ano de Design de Cerâmica e Vidro da Escola Superior de Artes e Design no âmbito da unidade curricular Oficina de Craft III.

This event presented the work done by 2nd year students of Ceramics and Glass Design from ESAD.CR, in the class of Craft Workshop III.

The project was directed by teacher Nick Taylor.

Durante mais de uma hora desfilaram vários trabalhos de joalharia, adereços e peças de arte realizadas em cerâmica nos seus vários materiais.

For over an hour paraded several works of jewelery, ornaments and art pieces made in its various ceramic materials.

Os diversos adereços adornavam os modelos com requinte e elegância. Demonstrando que de facto a “cerâmica não é só sanitas” (lema utilizado pelos alunos).

The ornaments adorned the models with refinement and elegance, showing that in fact “ceramics is not only toilets” (motto used by students).

Bem-haja a todos os envolvidos que mais uma vez demonstraram que a cerâmica ainda tem muita potencialidade, que tem mercado para explorar e porque não na passarela!

We thank everyone involved in the show. You’ve demonstrated that ceramics still has much potential, and why not on the catwalk!

O evento teve, outra particularidade, a extraordinária proeza de conseguir envolver todos os cursos da ESAD.CR. Cada área deu o seu melhor dentro do seu âmbito pedagógico o que rematou num trabalho deslumbrante.

A ESAD.CR é a prova viva que união faz a força!

The event had another particularity, the extraordinary feat of getting all ESAD.CR’s courses involved. Everyone gave their best at their area of expertise, which resulted in a stunning work.

ESAD.CR is the living proof that unity is strength!

2ª Edição de Festival Ofélia|| 2nd Edition of the Ophelia Festival

2ª Edição de Festival Ofélia – Encontro Nacional de Teatro na ESAD.CR – 4 a 6 de Junho de 2012.
2nd Edition of the Ophelia Festival – National Theatre Meeting in ESAD.CR – 4 to 6 June 2012.

O festival foi organizado pelo um grupo de alunos do 2º ano do curso de Teatro da ESAD.CR como objetivo de celebrar a arte, o teatro, a performance, a voz, o corpo e a criatividade.

The festival was organized by a group of students from the 2nd year of the Theatre course of ESAD.CR, with the aim to celebrate art, theater, performance, voice, body and creativity.

A 2.ª edição do Festival Ofélia pretendeu criar uma plataforma de partilha de conhecimentos e experiências na área das artes, nomeadamente no âmbito do teatro e da representação; incentivar a criatividade e criação dos estudantes de artes; proporcionar o intercâmbio entre escolas de teatro nacionais e internacionais.

The 2nd edition of the Ophelia Festival intended to create a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences in the arts, particularly in the context of theater and performance; encourage creativity and creation in arts students, provide the exchange between national and international theater schools.

Este ano o festival teve a participação de 5 escolas externas – Universidade de Coimbra; Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espetáculo; Universidade de Trás os Montes e Alto Douro; Universidade de Évora e Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema.

This year the festival was attended by five external schools – University of Coimbra, School of Music, Arts and Entertainment; University of Trás os Montes and Alto Douro, University of Évora and School of Theatre and Film.

Do programa constou também a apresentação da peça de teatro de Simão Rubim “Mente Monumentalmente – Nós mesmos, Invenções Teatrais” no Centro Cultural de Caldas da Rainha. No fim do espetáculo o ator/encenador conversou com o público presente sobre o espetáculo.

The program also comprised the presentation of Simão Rubin’s play “Mente Monumentalmente – Nós mesmos, Invenções Teatrais” at the Centro Cultural of Caldas da Rainha. At the end of the show the actor / director spoke to the audience about the show.

• Montagem e operação de luz, com Daniel Coimbra
• Seminário de voz, com Rui Baeta

There were also eight workshops with some of the best professionals from the area:

Os mais de 10 espetáculos localizar-se apresentados nas instalações da ESAD.CR, no Centro Cultural e de Congressos e no Centro de Juventude das Caldas da Rainha.

The more than 10 performances were presented in the facilities of ESAD.CR and also in the Cultural and Congress Centre and the Youth Centre of Caldas da Rainha.

Nestes três dias do festival Ofélia os espectadores puderam vislumbrar-se com apresentações de nível profissional. Estes futuros e promissores profissionais da área do teatro contribuíram para reforçar a ideia de que o ensino de teatro em Portugal está muito bem e que se recomenda.

In these three days of the Ophelia festival the public was able to attend professional-level presentations. These promising future theater professionals contribute to reinforce the idea that the teaching of theater in Portugal is quite developed.

As interpretações foram magníficas dignas da “Alta-cultura”, com a presença de valores autênticos.

The performances were magnificent!

Foram dias proveitosos que marcaram os organizadores, seja pelo nível técnico dos assuntos abordados nos workshops, seja pelas apresentações de trabalhos, seja pela adesão e compromisso demonstrados pelos participantes.

From the technical level of the subjects covered in the workshops, to paper presentations, either through membership and commitment shown by participants, it was a excellent festival.

A 3ª edição do Festival Ofélia está prevista ser realizada 2 a 5 de Abril de 2013.
The third edition of the Ophelia Festival is expected to be held in 2 to 5 April 2013.

PAR – CICLO DE CINEMA E DEBATE 2011-2012||PAR – CYCLE OF CINEMA AND DEBATE 2011-2012.

 

O PAR escolheu o tema “O Teatro no Cinema” para o Ciclo de Cinema e Debate deste ano. O programa proposto contou com a exibição de 5 filmes. No final de cada exibição o filme foi comentado pelo convidado, que astuciosamente lançava interrogações ao público, iniciando assim um estimulante debate em torno do enredo do filme. Mais um vez o PAR demonstrou a importância e necessidade da troca de conhecimento e opiniões!

The PAR has chosen the theme “The Theatre in the Cinema” for the Cycle Film and Debate of this year. The proposed program included the exhibition of 5 films. At the end of each screening the film was reviewed by the guest, who cunningly threw questions to the public, thus beginning a stimulating debate around the film’s plot. Once again the PAR showed the importance and need to exchange knowledge and opinions!

A inauguração do Espaço ESAD.CR/IPL – “Natureza e a Arte” decorreu no dia 23 de maio de 2013. Este projeto advém de uma parceria entre MCCB e ESAD.CR/IPL, tendo como principal objetivo a divulgação de trabalhos de alunos de Artes Plásticas da ESAD.CR/IPL inspirados na Natureza e Biodiversidade.

The inauguration of the “Nature and Art” space was held on May 23, 2013. This project comes from a partnership between MCCB and ESAD.CR / IPL, having as main goal the dissemination of works of Fine Arts students from ESAD.CR / IPL inspired by Nature and Biodiversity.

No espaço estão patentes três obras de arte que resultam da escolha de uma comissão representativa de ambas instituições. Cláudia Pascoal, Paulo Marques e Ana Marques são os primeiros alunos a expor neste espaço.

At the space there are in display three works of art that resulted from the choice of a committee representing both institutions. Cláudia Pascoal, Paulo Marques and Ana Marques are the first students to exhibit in this space.

De referir que, o Museu da Comunidade Concelhia da Batalha foi reconhecido em 2012 como o Melhor Museu Português (prémio APOM) e em 2013 foi distinguido internacionalmente com o prémio Kenneth Hudson.

The Batalha Municipal Community Museum was recognized in 2012 as the Best Portuguese Museum (premium MPOA) and in 2013 was honored with the Kenneth Hudson international prize.

A Biblioteca José Saramago do Instituto Politécnico recebeu o lançamento de uma obra de excecional qualidade gráfica e editorial, realizada numa parceria entre o IPL/ESAD.cr, a FCT-UNL e a FUNDAÇÃO JOSÉ SARAMAGO.

The José Saramago Library of the Polytechnic Institute welcomed a book launch of exceptional graphic and editorial quality, edited in a partnership between the IPL / ESAD.cr, FCT-UNL and THE JOSÉ SARAMAGO FOUNDATION.

O lançamento de ESQUECER SARAMAGO é enquadrado por uma mostra itinerante de arte contemporânea. Ao espaço da Biblioteca chegou uma mala de viagem criada por Biana Costa (aluna da ESAD.CR), que foi aberta e de onde foram retiradas as obras – todas elas expressamente concebidas para esta viagem – numa performance do designer André Teles (aluno da ESAD.CR). A exposição é complementada por imagens dos Extras do filme José e Pilar, cedidas pelo realizador, Miguel Gonçalves Mendes.

The edition of FORGET SARAMAGO is framed by a traveling exhibition of contemporary art. A suitcase created by Biana Costa (student of ESAD.CR) arrived at the Library space, which was opened and whose contents were removed – all expressly designed for this trip – at a performance by designer André Teles (student at ESAD . CR). The exhibition is complemented by images of movie Extras from the film José and Pilar, courtesy of director Miguel Gonçalves Mendes.

Na mostra e no livro são invocados onze textos de José Saramago, cruzando-se a memória de quem o leu num momento marcante do seu percurso pessoal – Eunice Artur, Bruno Bogarim, Orphanus Lauro, Pedro Penilo, Anabela Santos – mas também de novos leitores – André Banha, Ricardo Braz, João R. Ferreira, Nuno Fragata, André Graça Gomes, Mónica Landim – do autor d’O Memorial do Convento. É uma obra coletiva, um mosaico de visões, todas de docentes, alunos e/ou ex-alunos da ESAD.cr – com a exceção de um convidado especial, o artista plástico e designer Pedro Penilo.

Eleven manuscripts of José Saramago are invoked on the show and in the book, crossing the memory of those who read it in a remarkable moment of your personal journey – Eunice Arthur, Bruno Bogarim, Orphanus Lauro, Pedro Penilo, Anabela Santos – but also for new readers – André Banha, Ricardo Braz, João R. Ferreira, Nuno Fragata, André Graça Gomes, Mónica Landim. It is a collective work, a mosaic of visions, all from faculty, students and / or alumni ESAD.cr – with the exception of a special guest, the artist and designer Peter Penilo.

Exposição “O OUTRO LADO DAS GAVETAS DAS OFICINAS DE GRAVURA E SERIGRAFIA”||Exhibition “THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DRAWERS OF THE ENGRAVING AND SERIGRAPHY ATELIERS”.

“O OUTRO LADO DAS GAVETAS DAS OFICINAS DE GRAVURA E SERIGRAFIA”, é uma exposição com o intuito de criar uma pequena abordagem de técnicas gráficas desenvolvidas nas Oficinas de Serigrafia e Gravura da ESAD. CR.

“THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DRAWERS OF THE ENGRAVING AND SERIGRAPHY ATELIERS” is an exhibition that aims to showcase the graphic techniques developed in the Engraving and Serigraphy Ateliers at ESAD.CR.

A exposição foi inaugurada no dia 22 de Novembro de 212, pelas 18:00 horas, no Museu José Malhoa. A mesma estará patente até dia 20 de Janeiro de 2013.

The opening took place last November 22, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at the José Malhoa Museum and it will be open until January 20, 2013.

A organização resulta de uma parceria entre o no Museu José Malhoa e a Escola Superior de Arte e Design das Caldas da Rainha.

Na exposição estão presentes trabalhos realizados com várias técnicas de gravura, permitindo numa única visita ficar a saber os potenciais das oficinas da área da ESAD.CR.v

The exhibition is the result of a partnership between the José Malhoa Museum and ESAD.CR.

There you can find works done with various engraving techniques, allowing at single visit to find out the potential of ESAD.CR’s ateliers.

A exposição surgiu de um desafio lançado pela Técnica Superior da Oficina de serigrafia e gravura – Vera Gonçalves. A proposta lançada aos alunos foi a concretização de trabalhos que extrapolassem para a atmosfera, criando um ambiente envolvente entre o objeto e o visitante, um espaço místico.

The exhibition arose from a challenge cast by the Technician responsible for the Engraving and Serigraphy Ateliers – Vera Gonçalves. She proposed the students to create an immersive environment between the object and the visitor, a mystical space.

A apresentação “Prognósticos só depois do jogo” foi uma retrospetiva da obra fotográfica do docente, pensada numa cronologia inversa, de 2012 a 1993.

“Predictions only after the game” was a retrospective of the photographic work of the teacher, through a reverse chronology, from 2012 to 1993.

Os trabalhos selecionados foram os mais significativos, os mesmos foram alinhados de modo a explicitar as referências e ideias que os formaram.

The selected works were the most significant; they were aligned to explain the references and ideas that formed it.

Utilizando imagens singulares, capas de livros editados e slides de trabalhos que estiveram na génese das pesquisas visuais do autor, as imagens foram acompanhadas com a sequência visual de um texto inicial e de comentários ao longo da projeção.

Using singular images, book covers and slides of works that were in the genesis of visual research of the author, the images were accompanied with the visual sequence of an initial text and comments along the projection.

As perguntas que se seguiram à apresentação permitiram responder a questões que o contexto das Artes Plásticas viu levantadas pelas imagens e textos e contribuíram muito para o aprofundar de ideias e reflexões antes enunciadas.

I Ciclo de Cinema Contemporâneo Português na ESAD.CR ||1st Contemporary Portuguese Film Festival at ESAD.CR

I Ciclo de Cinema Contemporâneo Português na ESAD.CR com o apoio do Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual e da Secretaria de Estado da Cultura.

O evento realizou-se nos dias 15, 16 e 17 de outubro, organizado no âmbito da licenciatura em Som e Imagem pelos docentes Nuno Lisboa, Susana Duarte e Diogo Saldanha. Os organizadores pretenderam homenagear e dar a conhecer alguns dos melhores realizadores e filmes portugueses da contemporaneidade.

The event was held from October 15 to 17 and was organized by teachers Nuno Lisboa, Susana Duarte and Diogo Saldanha, within the Sound and Image course. The organizers sought to honor and promote some of the best Portuguese contemporary films and filmmakers.

Após cada exibição seguiu-se um debate com os realizadores. Nas conferências foi debatido o tema do cinema contemporâneo português e foram desvendados alguns dos segredos dos realizadores.
Each exhibition was followed by a conversation with the filmmakers. Portuguese contemporary cinema was debated and some filmmakers unraveled some of their secrets.

Assistiram ao ciclo mais de 700 pessoas durante os três dias, com a presença da comunidade académica e externa, o balanço foi muito positivo, e já se pensa na 2ª edição do ciclo para o próximo ano.

More than 700 people attended the festival over the three days, with the presence of both academic and civil community. The balance was very positive, and we’re already thinking about a 2nd edition next year.

No passado dia 6 de Novembro de 2012 o artista formado pela ESAD.CR/IPL realizou uma conferência incluída no âmbito da cadeira opcional de Artes plásticas de Configuração e Forma a convite do docente Samuel Rama.

Last November 6, 2012, the artist graduated from ESAD.CR / IPL held a conference within the discipline of Visual arts – Configuration and Shape, after the invitation of professor Samuel Rama.

A conferência realizou-se no Auditório do EP 1 das 14:30 às 17:30. Nela o artista plástico Carlos Bunga mostrou uma seleção de trabalhos, desde 2003 até à atualidade.

At the conference, held in the Auditorium of EP 1 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Carlos Bunga showed a selection of his works from 2003 to the present.

Em pouco mais de nove anos de trabalho Carlos Bunga é já detentor de um percurso de assinalável interesse sendo um dos artistas formados pela Esad.cr com maior projeção internacional e por isso marcante no contexto nacional e internacional.

In just over nine years of work Carlos Bunga is already the holder of a remarkable curriculum, being one of the alumni with greater international projection and so striking career in national and international context.

Cinco estudantes da Escola Superior de Artes e Design de Caldas da Rainha (ESAD.CR) mostraram o seu talento no Doclisboa’12, 10.º Festival Internacional de Cinema. Carla Fonseca, Samuel Marques, Alexandra de Matos, Luís Almeida e Raquel Ceriz são os jovens realizadores, cujas curtas-metragens foram apresentadas nos dias 20 e 22 de outubro, na Sala 3 do Cinema São Jorge.

Five students from the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha (ESAD.CR) displayed their talent at Doclisboa’12, 10th International Film Festival. Carla Fonseca, Samuel Marques, Alexandra de Matos, Luís Almeida and Raquel Ceriz are the young filmmakers whose short films were presented on 20 and 22 October, in Room 3 at São Jorge Cinema.

Todos os trabalhos dos estudantes da ESAD.CR foram exibidos no âmbito da secção “Verdes Anos”, que apresentou filmes produzidos no contexto de escolas de vídeo, cinema, audiovisuais e comunicação, bem como em cursos de pós-graduação relacionados com o cinema e em particular o cinema documental.

The works of ESAD.CR’s students were displayed on the section “Green Years”, which showed films produced in video, cinema, audiovisual and communication schools, as well as in graduate courses related to film and particularly documentary filmmaking.

“Verdes Anos” procurou sobretudo abrir uma plataforma de diálogo e reflexão em torno dos filmes produzidos, bem como do ensino destas áreas.

“Green Years” has focused in encouraging dialogue and reflection on the films produced, as well as on the teaching of these areas.

O documentarista e ensaísta alemão Hartmut Bitomsky, um dos maiores realizadores de documentários da atualidade, realizou uma masterclass de Práticas de Som e Imagem onde abordou as práticas documentais no contexto da pedagogia artística.

The German filmmaker and essayist Hartmut Bitomsky, one of the greatest documentary filmmakers of our time, held a masterclass for Sound and Imaging Practices where he tackled the documentary practices in the context of artistic pedagogy.

A sua relevante obra documental, caracteriza-se por uma permanente interrogação sobre a intervenção das imagens no mundo, procurando desvendar os seus efeitos culturais e históricos. Constitui também, através de uma série de investigações sobre o próprio cinema, uma rara articulação dos gestos crítico, de realização, e pedagógico.

His relevant documentary work is characterized by a permanent inquiry about the role of images in the world, trying to discover their cultural and historical purposes. It is also, through a series of investigations into the cinema itself, a rare conjunction of critical gestures, conducting, and teaching.

Foi precisamente sobre esta confluência, na produção de imagens documentais enquanto prática artística, que incidiu a masterclass, em que se puderam visionar excertos dos seus filmes.

The masterclass focused precisely on this confluence, on the production of documentary images as an artistic practice, using clips of his films.

A tradição académica da Queima das Fitas é uma semana festiva que acontece todos os anos durante o mês de Maio. Entre diversas atividades, estão a serenata estudantil, os concertos musicais e o cortejo académico

The academic tradition of the Burning of the Ribbons is a festive week which takes place every year during the month of May. Among various activities, we have the serenade, music concerts and the academic procession.

A bênção das Fitas é uma cerimónia religiosa, onde as pastas dos finalistas são abençoadas, simbolizando a bênção da partida, a finalização de um trajeto e o princípio de uma nova fase.

The blessing of the Ribbons is a religious ceremony, where the ribbons of the graduating students are blessed, symbolizing the blessing of the departure, the end of a journey and the beginning of a new phase.

Alguns alunos da ESAD.CR não quiseram deixar de participar neste evento secular que se realizou em Leiria. Bem-haja a todos os finalistas.

Alunos do 2º ano do Curso de Teatro apresentaram ao público peça “O pecado de João Agonia” de Bernardo Santero||Students of 2nd year of Theater presented the play “John Agony’s sin” from Bernardo Santareno.

No dia 5 de Maio, na sala 17 do Ep2 da ESAD.CR, os alunos do 2º ano do Curso de Teatro apresentaram ao público peça ” O pecado de João Agonia” de Bernardo Santero. Este projecto teve a direção do Docente Luís Castro.

On May 5, in room 17 of the Ep2 at ESAD.CR, students of 2nd year of Theater presented the play “John Agony’s sin” from Bernardo Santareno. This project was directed by Professor Luís Castro.

Bernardo Santareno é considerado um dos maiores dramaturgos portugueses de sempre e o principal dramaturgo português do sec.XX.

Bernardo Santareno is considered one of the greatest Portuguese playwrights of all times and the main Portuguese playwright of the XX century.

O Pecado de João Agonia, peça fundamental da dramaturgia de Santareno, aborda o tema da homossexualidade e a repressão exercida sobre os homossexuais no Portugal dos anos sessenta do século passado.

John Agony’s sin, a fundamental play of Santareno, addresses the issue of homosexuality and repression of homosexuals in Portugal in the sixties.

ESAD.CR/IPL publicou o livro “Roubo” da autoria dos docentes Miguel Castro Caldas e João Salavisa, uma parceria com o Palavrão.

O livro “Roubo” é um documento resultante do projeto homónimo, este inclui a compilação dos textos produzidos na unidade curricular de Práticas de Escritas para Teatro (PEPT), orientada pelo docente Miguel Castro Caldas e também inclui o filme realizado na unidade curricular de Linguagens Cinematográficas (LC) orientada pelo docente João Salavisa, realizadas no âmbito do 1º Ano do Curso de Mestrado de Teatro ESAD.CR/IPL.

ESAD.CR/IPL published the book “Roubo” from the teatchers Miguel Castro Caldas and João Salavisa, in a partnership with the Palavrão.

The book “Roubo” is a resulting document of the homonymous project. It includes a compilation of texts produced in the course unit of Written Practices for the Theatre, directed by professor Miguel Castro Caldas, and also includes a film made in the course unit of Motion Picture Languages -oriented by the professor João Salaviza, carried out under the 1st Year’s Master Degree in Theatre of the ESAD.CR/IPL.

Dave Crossland Realiza Workshop e Conferência|| Dave Crossland Held Workshop and Conference

No dia 5 de Janeiro de 2012, os alunos do 3º ano de Design Gráfico e Multimédia da ESAD.CR/IPL participaram numa conferência e num workshop, sendo o objecto de estudo a tipografia, realizado por Dave Crossland (Inglaterra).
On January 5 of 2012, ESAD.CR/IPL students of the 3rd year of Graphic and Multimedia Design participated in a conference and a workshop, typography was the main subject, conducted by Dave Crossland (England).

O workshop de tipografia teve como base “Collaborative Type Design – Without Computers” e “Google Fonts” foi o cerne da conferência.
The typography workshop was based on “Collaborative Type Design – Without Computers” and “Google Fonts” was the focus of the conference.

Estes dois eventos foram coordenados pelos docentes: Aprígio Morgado, Rúben Dias e Ricardo Santos do Curso de Design Gráfico e Multimédia.

De 24 de Novembro de 2011 a 9 de Janeiro de 2012 esteve patente no Museu José Malhoa uma mostra de trabalhos realizados pelos alunos do 2º Ano de Artes Plásticas da ESAD.CR/IPL no âmbito da disciplina de Projeto de Desenho, lecionada pelo Docente Philip Cabau.
On November 24, 2011 until January 9, 2012 was shown at the Museum José Malhoa a display of works by the students of 2nd year of Fine Arts ESAD.CR/IPL within the discipline of Project Design, taught by Professor Philip Cabau.

Os trabalhos expostos tiveram como base a realização de um projeto na área do desenho – sob enquadramento de critérios de uma prática artística desenvolvida ao longo do 1º semestre de 2011/2012.
The works displayed were based on the realization of a project in the area of design – in a framework criteria of artistic practice developed over the first semester 2011/2012.

A exposição pretendeu ser uma mostra à comunidade Caldense, do muito que acontece na Escola.

Course or field of study:  Textile Design.

Why did you choose this school?
Finland was a country that I’ve wanted to visit for a long time so I chose the country, not the school and Kuopio Academy of Design was the only school in Finland with an agreement with ESAD.

Did you like the school?
Yes, it was a very laid-back environment and the people were quiet and nice. The school had good workspaces and materials.

How far was the school from the city?
The school had several buildings, I had classes in two of them and they were 15 and 20 minutes away from the city center.

Your field of study is well developed in the school?
I don’t know because they had just closed down Graphic Design and they didn’t have Multimedia so I couldn’t take my course.

What other areas of study are developed in this school?
Fashion and clothing design, Industrial design, Ceramics, Jewellery and Interior Architecture and Furniture design.

How did you relate to native teachers and students?
At first it was hard to talk to other students because the Finns are quiet and I’m quiet, but they were always friendly and as soon as we had our first conversations we felt more comfortable and both the students and the teachers were very helpful and patient.

This school is “ideal” for…
…experimenting and work in the textile/fashion department.

Other information/experiences:
The worst part was that some classes were happening at the same time so we always had to skip some of them and the schedule was hard to understand so we always had trouble knowing which classes to take.

Where did you stay?
One of my tutors found me an apartment with four Finnish girls. I was supposed to stay there temporarily but I ended up staying with them the whole time.

How far was the accommodation from the school? And from the city?
I was staying 2,5 km away from the first building and city center and 3 km from the second building.

It had good conditions?
Yes.

How much did it cost?
We agreed on 200€/month. If I had stayed with the Student Housing Company (Kuopas) I would have paid at least 50€ more.

Did you like the food?
Yes, except for the reindeer.

How was the standard of living?
High.

Did you visit other cities?
Yes, I was in Rovaniemi (for a month doing the EILC), Inari, Turku, Lahti, Helsinki and I even went to Norway.

What do you think are the major cultural differences?
Everything you can think of is different. The streets are cleaner, they don’t go inside the house with their shoes on and the temperature inside is always warm. People there are more reserved and quiet; they probably won’t take the first step if they want to talk to you (unless they are drunk) and even though the Finns might point some bad things about Finland they are proud of their country.

Other information/experiences:
I find it very important that there are bike tracks so people can jog and ride a bike without having to do it on the road. And Finland has the cleanest tap water.

 Did you receive a grant?
Yes.

Did you make friendships with native people?
Yes.

 Do you plan to go back? 

I wish I had never left! I can’t wait to go back. There are still a lot of things to do and see there. I love Finland and I could live there.

What do you think that this experience brought to you in the personal and professional level? 

I think I’m not so scared of strangers and doing things and going to places alone, I know I’ll be fine. And while I was in Finland it was very easy to be social and talkative. I don’t think it has brought a lot on the professional side because I wasn’t doing my course, however I did learn a few things about sewing and the drawing classes were the best I’ve had.

Did you experience some adventure or strange situation you’d like to share? 
Well, I went back to Lapland in December and it was so cold that my hair froze. I had never experienced such cold temperatures but it’s not so bad, you just have to be prepared with a good winter coat, wear a lot of layers and of course, gloves.

A recommendation for future “Mobility Students”:
Enjoy it and have fun while you’re there, time flies. And if you can, do the EILC, it’s the best.

ESAD.CR + Det Tverrfaglige from Norway.

We conducted a Workshop on Graphic Techniques at our Printmaking and Silkscreen studio on 28 February 28 and 1, 2 and 3 March. The workshop resulted from an annual partnership between us and the institution annually Det Tverrfaglige from Norway.

At the Printing Techniques Workshop were developed two exercises with two different techniques: Linoleum – engraving adapted to the exercise under the theme “Labyrinth”, coordinated by teacher Isabel Baraona and technician Vera Goncalves; and Silkscreen Printing adapted to the exercise of printing a “1000 Escudos Bill from ESAD.CR “, coordinated by Vera Gonçalves.

The Norwegian student group was composed of: Tove Leithe, Knut Nes, Jon Thorensen, Thomas Karlsen, Benedicte Friis, Kristen Snker and Gerd Wandergard, accompanied by the rector of the institution Det Tverrfaglige, Dr. Julio Fernandes da Silva.

In addition to the fellowship among students and teachers of different ages, this event has managed to produce interesting works performed with techniques of removal of the matrix, the addition of transparent colors and collages. The mixture of these techniques allowed the development of plasticity and image dynamics that we intended to work.

“This type of event is one of the best ways to improve our work.  It is interesting to notice the  international students’ motivation who have been completely absorbed by learning the techniques of printing. Workshop With Studens of Gymnasium Stift Keppel, Germany.

ESAD.CR conducted a Workshop on Graphic Techniques at our Printmaking and Silkscreen studio on September 27 to 29.

The workshop resulted from a new yearly partnership between us and the Gymnasium Stift Keppel institution, in Germany.

At the Printing Techniques Workshop were developed two exercises with two different techniques: Linoleum – engraving adapted to the exercise under the theme “Labyrinth” and Silkscreen Printing adapted to the exercise of printing.

This workshop was oriented by the Teacher Isabel Baraona and the Technical Vera Gonçalves.

International Week 2012 in ESAD.CR

It all started a few months ago when the head of the Mobility Office at ESAD.CR, Sandra Taurino, had the brilliant idea of holding the 3rd International Week on ESAD.CR.

Little did she now where she was getting into!

First she had a talk with the incoming students so that they would participate with their work in the International Week. All were willing to cooperate. 

We have art coming from various parts of Europe and elsewhere (Italy, Hungary, Spain, Poland, Latvia, Sweden, Slovenia, and Brazil).

The exhibition opened on 07/05/12 at 4h30 p.m. and was held until 11/05/12 at the Hall of the Auditorium of EP1.

On May 9 – Europe Day – The ESAD.CR received the ERASMUS FILM FEST.

This festival was organized by ESAD.CR and ESTM. During the morning there was the awards ceremony of the festival (http://www.giturprojects.com/erasmus-film-fest/).

The awards ceremony concluded with two musical moments. Two students of ESAD.CR played Libertango from Astor Piazzolla (Luís Paixão, on the accordion, 3rd year of Fine Arts and João Dionísio, on the trumpet, 2nd year of Sound and Image).

Then we had traditional Jewish music, played by António Casal on percussion and Manuel Lemos on clarinet.

This duo come from a series of concerts sponsored by the Choir of Leiria, and is dedicated to playing so many unique and creative themes of popular Jewish music.

After all these stars, we had a relaxing moment enjoying a fine codfish meal. The whole buffet was prepared and cooked by students of the School of Tourism and Hospitality of Caldas da Rainha.

But that was not the end of it!

At 3:00 p.m. a ZEN moment, with YOGA class in the pine forest.

Throughout the day students of ESAD.CR done a fantastic action of entrepreneurship, a FLEA MARKET (2nd edition). At the fair you could find everything, from clothes to cabbage juice!

And we’re not over!

At 8:00 p.m. dinner was served in the cafeteria of the campus. We had three fabulous dishes prepared by the fantastic team of our cafeteria. We would like to thank the Social Services of the IPL for her unconditional support.

And finally, nothing better than a nice jolt to lose some calories. The Association of Student ESAD.CR gave a dance class FOLK.

“Incoming” students’ reception.

On 17 October it was with great satisfaction that ESAD.CR held a meeting to welcome new students.

It is the first time that ESAD.CR receives so many Incoming students. This year we received 39 students from various European countries and also from Brazil.

The nationalities of our students are: Spain (9), Germany (5), Latvia (6), Brazil (6), Slovenia (3), Poland (1), Finland (1), Ireland (1), Norway (2), Turkey (4) and Belgium (1).

We wish you all a great stay.

Technician Rita Frutuoso in Mobility.

Under the Faculty and Staff Mobility for Training (STT) program, technician Rita Frutuoso attended training in Italy in La Meridiana – International Ceramics Centre.

According to her it was a wonderful experience because besides learning a bit more about porcelain, she had the privilege of meeting people from all over the world.

Polish Trainees Exhibit in ESAD.CR.

On July 31, 2012 there was an exhibition in ESAD.CR from two Polish students coming from the The Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design located in Wroclaw.

The two students had done an internship at the Ceramics and Plaster Office during a three months period.

This exhibition aimed to share the excellent work done by Dawid and Weronika, who chose Caldas da Rainha to learn more about pottery.

25th September 2012 – INCOMING STUDENTS’ CITY TOUR

Despite this rainy day, our “incoming” students were excited to discover the city.

We started at the school and we headed on foot to the Museum Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. The Museum provided our ERASMUS students a very pleasant visit. They’re delighted with the tour and got a new perspective of ceramic art.

Then we walked to the city center, passing through the fruit square and shopping streets.

The goal was to reach the City Hall, where the President was awaiting us for a welcome reception.

The President Fernando Costa received the students with a welcome speech and, last but not least, with kisses and regional liquor, a “ginjinha de Óbidos”.

Lunch was served at the restaurant Maratona with the following menu:

Bacalhau à gomes de sá (codfish)
Arroz doce (rice pudding)
Trocha de ovos (sweet made of eggs)
Pêra bêbeda (“drunk” pears)

O aluno Tiago de Jesus, finalista do Curso de Design Gráfico e Multimédia da ESAD.CR, participou no concurso destinado à realização de um cartaz para uma campanha de prevenção rodoviária na Europa. O seu trabalho foi selecionado entre 800 candidatos, ficando entre os 10 finalistas.

Os alunos da ESAD.CR/IPL, Célio Pires e Rita Noites do 3º e 2º ano do curso de Design Gráfico e Multimédia conquistaram um lugar na tabela dos melhores trabalhos num evento mundial, que se realiza numa plataforma Web denominada “Show Us Your Type” – http://www.showusyourtype.com/

Sinopse:
O projecto Show Us Your Type é uma iniciativa colaborativa que reúne as experimentações tipográficas que abrangem designers de todo o mundo. O objectivo é interpretar visualmente uma metrópole mundial de uma forma criativa e original. É um projecto da revista Neue com sede em Nova Iorque e Barcelona, que pretende juntar numa plataforma os cartazes tipográficos que melhor representam a cidade do mês em questão.
Célio Pires e Rita Noites ilustraram a cidade de Melbourne e usaram como referência conceptual dois elementos que distinguem a cidade fora das suas fronteiras.

Célio aproveitou o facto de Melbourne cultivar e exportar algodão para todo o mundo, para jogar com as formas não lineares do mesmo e obter referências tipográficas sob forma de vector. Rita, mais focada na enorme agenda cultural de eventos e na própria arquitetura de Melbourne, optou por utilizar como referência os edifícios com mais destaque. Deixou-se influenciar pela robustez arquitectónica de edifícios como: SBS studios em Federation Square, tal como de outros, e encontrou neles uma forte e detalhada harmonia de formas geométricas que enalteceram o seu lado mais criativo obviamente determinante na escolha de formas, cores e texturas, conseguindo assim representar sob a forma de imagens vectoriais a alma de Melbourne num suporte comum.

Synopsis:
The project Show Us Your Type is a collaborative initiative that brings together the trials covering typographic designers from around the world. The aim is to interpret visually a metropolis in a creative and original way. It is a project of the Neue magazine based in New York and Barcelona, that wants to join on a single platform, typographic posters that best represent the city in a given month.
Célio Pires and Rita Noites illustrated Melbourne and used as reference two conceptual elements that distinguish the city outside its borders.

Célio took advantage of the fact that Melbourne grow and export cotton to the world, to play with the non-linear forms of the same typeface and get references in the form of vector. Rita, more focused on the enormous cultural calendar of events and the very architecture of Melbourne, has chosen to use as reference the most prominent buildings. Was influenced by the strength of architectural buildings such as SBS studios in Federation Square, as others, and found in them a strong and comprehensive harmony of geometric shapes that extolled its most creative course in determining their choice of shapes, colors and textures, thus representing the form of vector graphics the soul of Melbourne in a common support.

João Salaviza won on last February 18, 2012 the Golden Bear at the 62nd edition of the Berlinale – the Berlin Film Festival, with the short film “Rafa.”

“Rafa” refers to the life of a boy of 13 years old, of the “Margem Sul”, who goes to Lisbon searching for his mother.

A curta-metragem “Em Terra Frágil” do ex-aluno Bruno Carnide do Curso de Som e Imagem da ESAD.CR, foi selecionado para os Prémios Sofia da Academia Portuguesa de Cinema ./

The short film “On Fragile Land”, from former student Bruno Carnide, was selected for the Sofia Awards from the Portuguese Cinema Academy.

O filme retrata “uma viagem ao mundo mais cruel do ser humano. Percorrendo dois países, Portugal e Inglaterra, conta a história de uma mãe que se vê obrigada a deixar a filha devido a um vício oculto do marido. Em Inglaterra sofre pela distância do seu bem mais preciso, enquanto o marido, em Portugal, continua o seu vício com a filha. Será isto um modo de vida? Haverá ainda esperança?” (Bruno Carnide).

The film portrays “a journey into the most cruel world of the human being. Traversing two countries, Portugal and England, it tells the story of a mother who is forced to leave her daughter due to her husband’s hidden vice. In England she suffers from the distance of her precious daughter, while her husband, in Portugal, continues his vice with his daughter. Is this a way of life? Is there still hope? “(Bruno Carnide).

Fernando Brízio – Prémio Autores 2012./ Fernando Brízio – 2012 Authors’ Awards.

O Coordenador dos Cursos de Licenciatura em Design Industrial e de Mestrado em Design de Produto da ESAD.CR, Fernando Brízio, foi nomeado para o prémio Autores 2012 na Categoria de Artes Visuais com a exposição intitulada Desenho Habitado. No dia 27 de fevereiro foram revelados os vencedores na III Gala do Prémio Autores 2012, no Centro Cultural de Belém./

The Coordinator of the Degree in Industrial Design and Master in Product Design from ESAD.CR – Fernando Brízio, was nominated for the 2012 Authors’ Awards in Category of Visual Arts , with the exhibition entitled Inhabited Drawing. On Feb. 27 the winners will be revealed at the III  Ceremony of  the Authors’ Award in 2012, which will take place at Centro Cultural de Belém.

Na mesma Gala foram entregues os prémios aos criadores que mais marcaram o ano 2011 nas diversas áreas de criação artística representadas pela SPA. O evento foi transmitido em direto na RTP./

At the ceremony were also delivered the prizes to artists who marked the year 2011 in the various areas of artistic creation represented by the SPA (Society of Portuguese Authors). The event was broadcasted directly in RTP.

Workshop com realizador português Miguel Mendes “O cinema documental de Miguel Gonçalves Mendes”. Workshop With the Portuguese Filmmaker Miguel Mendes ”The documentary films of Miguel Gonçalves Mendes”.

No 1º dia o formador realizou uma apresentação do seu trabalho. Após a visualização da sua filmografia, foram abordados os seguintes temas: o que é um documentário? Qual a fronteira entre o documentário e reportagem? Qual a fronteira entre o documentário e a ficção? Qual o ponto de vista de um realizador? O documentário no panorama português.

On the 1st day Miguel Mendes presented his work. After viewing his filmography, the following topics were discussed: What is a documentary? What is the boundary between documentary and reportage? What is the boundary between documentary and fiction? What’s the director’s point of view? The documentary in Portugal.

No 2º dia os temas tratados foram: a escolha de um tema; o tratamento do tema e como escrever a storyline de um documentário. No final os alunos foram confrontados com a seguinte questão: Existirão regras morais para a feitura de um filme?

On the 2nd day the following topics were discussed: the choice of a theme; treatment of the theme and how to write the storyline of a documentary. At the end the students were confronted with the following question: Are there moral rules for the making of a film?

No 3º dia Miguel Mendes incidiu a formação nas seguintes áreas: os diferentes tipos de produção; análise de casos de produção; fontes de financiamento e como montar produções de baixo custo.

E após a teoria chega o momento da verdade, aplicar os conhecimentos adquiridos a um projecto individual.

On the 3rd day Miguel Mendes focused training in the following areas: the different types of production; case analysis of production; funding sources and how to build low-cost productions.

And after the theory comes the moment of truth, to apply the acquired knowledge to an individual project.

No 4º dia os futuros realizadores foram para campo para a rodagem de um exercício documental. E finalmente, no último dia, as questões relacionadas com a pós-produção: como vender o produto? O que é o packaging? A relação com a imprensa e o público.

A formação finalizou com a apresentação dos exercícios práticos realizados.

On the 4th day the future filmmakers started shooting for a documentary exercise. And finally, on the last day, the issues related to post-production: how to sell the product? What is the packaging? The relationship with the press and the public.

The training ended with the presentation of the students’ documentary exercises.

Este workshop foi de teor prático e teve como objetivo introduzir os participantes à fotografia de estúdio. A sessão foi realizada em ambiente de luz artificial – Estúdio de Fotografia. Foram abordadas técnicas de iluminação com luz de Flash eletrónico adaptadas à fotografia de retrato. Foi utilizada uma câmara fotográfica digital reflex e um fotómetro.

This workshop was practical and aimed to introduce participants to the photo studio. The session was held in artificial light environment – Photography Studio. We approached lighting techniques using electronic flash light for portrait photography. We used a digital SLR camera and a photometer.

O workshop passou pela introdução à máquina fotográfica digital reflex ao fotómetro de mão e aos flashes eletrónicos, a refletores e outros acessórios.

The workshop introduced the digital SLR camera, the hand photometer, electronic flashes, the reflectors and other accessories.

Passou também pela introdução de técnicas de iluminação de rosto, foram feitos testes fotográficos e depois a parte criativa de enquadramento e os disparos finais.

Os participantes tiveram de realizar uma pequena narrativa baseada no cadavre exquis (Definição Wikipedia:http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cad%C3%A1ver_esquisito).

“Foi uma experiência enriquecedora, que permitiu complementar algumas áreas do curso, em os alunos estão a realizar, nomeadamente na disciplina de fotografia” – referiu a professora.

Face lighting techniques were also addressed, as well as photographic tests, creative framing and final shooting.

Participants had to create a short narrative based on cadavre exquis (Wikipedia Definition:http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cad% C3% A1ver_esquisito).

“It was an enriching experience that allowed to complement some additional areas of the course, in particular in the discipline of photography” – said the teacher.

Prémio da melhor imagem de síntese foi atribuído ao ex-aluno do curso de Design Industrial da IPL-ESAD.CR, Pedro Pinheiro, com os projetos “Conceito de Carro New-Retro” e “Prótese de braço biónica”.

Prémio professor, conferido pela qualidade e somatório das classificações de todos os projetos apresentados pelos seus alunos, foi atribuído ao Eng. João Mateus da IPL-ESAD.CR.

\Amongst 12 academic institutions, the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria had the highest sum of ratings of all the projects submitted by its students, having won the Institution Prize. The IPL-ESAD.CR received an honorable mention for the 2nd place.

Filmes de alunos de Som e Imagem no LEFFEST_prémio Meo 2012. / Movies of Sound and Image students at LEFFEST_Meo Award 2012.

Contando com a presença de alunos e professores das maiores escolas de cinema da Europa, cada escola apresenta os seus trabalhos mais representativos, seguido de um espaço de discussão e a avaliação dos trabalhos de cada escola por um júri internacional composto por grandes personalidades do cinema e das artes.

/The event was attended by students and teachers from the largest film schools in Europe. After each school displayed its most representative works, the jury evaluated the work presented. The international jury was composed of leading personalities from cinema and arts.

Uma iniciativa conjunta entre a MEO e o LEFFEST que promove um importante e contínuo estímulo para a criação cinematográfica.
