No passado dia 8 de Abril de 2013 foi apresentado no auditório do Ep1, pelas 17h00, o trabalho realizado pelos alunos do curso de Som e Imagem da unidade curricular “Realização”.
On last April 8, 2013 the work of students of the discipline of Film Directing of the Sound and Image Course ” has been presented in the auditorium of Ep1, at 5 p.m.
A unidade curricular é lecionada pela docente Leonor Areal.

A Biblioteca José Saramago do Instituto Politécnico recebeu o lançamento de uma obra de excecional qualidade gráfica e editorial, realizada numa parceria entre o IPL/ESAD.cr, a FCT-UNL e a FUNDAÇÃO JOSÉ SARAMAGO.
The José Saramago Library of the Polytechnic Institute welcomed a book launch of exceptional graphic and editorial quality, edited in a partnership between the IPL / ESAD.cr, FCT-UNL and THE JOSÉ SARAMAGO FOUNDATION.

O lançamento de ESQUECER SARAMAGO é enquadrado por uma mostra itinerante de arte contemporânea. Ao espaço da Biblioteca chegou uma mala de viagem criada por Biana Costa (aluna da ESAD.CR), que foi aberta e de onde foram retiradas as obras – todas elas expressamente concebidas para esta viagem – numa performance do designer André Teles (aluno da ESAD.CR). A exposição é complementada por imagens dos Extras do filme José e Pilar, cedidas pelo realizador, Miguel Gonçalves Mendes.
The edition of FORGET SARAMAGO is framed by a traveling exhibition of contemporary art. A suitcase created by Biana Costa (student of ESAD.CR) arrived at the Library space, which was opened and whose contents were removed – all expressly designed for this trip – at a performance by designer André Teles (student at ESAD . CR). The exhibition is complemented by images of movie Extras from the film José and Pilar, courtesy of director Miguel Gonçalves Mendes.
Na mostra e no livro são invocados onze textos de José Saramago, cruzando-se a memória de quem o leu num momento marcante do seu percurso pessoal – Eunice Artur, Bruno Bogarim, Orphanus Lauro, Pedro Penilo, Anabela Santos – mas também de novos leitores – André Banha, Ricardo Braz, João R. Ferreira, Nuno Fragata, André Graça Gomes, Mónica Landim – do autor d’O Memorial do Convento. É uma obra coletiva, um mosaico de visões, todas de docentes, alunos e/ou ex-alunos da ESAD.cr – com a exceção de um convidado especial, o artista plástico e designer Pedro Penilo.
Eleven manuscripts of José Saramago are invoked on the show and in the book, crossing the memory of those who read it in a remarkable moment of your personal journey – Eunice Arthur, Bruno Bogarim, Orphanus Lauro, Pedro Penilo, Anabela Santos – but also for new readers – André Banha, Ricardo Braz, João R. Ferreira, Nuno Fragata, André Graça Gomes, Mónica Landim. It is a collective work, a mosaic of visions, all from faculty, students and / or alumni ESAD.cr – with the exception of a special guest, the artist and designer Peter Penilo.

Exhibition “THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DRAWERS OF THE ENGRAVING AND SERIGRAPHY ATELIERS”.
“O OUTRO LADO DAS GAVETAS DAS OFICINAS DE GRAVURA E SERIGRAFIA”, é uma exposição com o intuito de criar uma pequena abordagem de técnicas gráficas desenvolvidas nas Oficinas de Serigrafia e Gravura da ESAD. CR.
“THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DRAWERS OF THE ENGRAVING AND SERIGRAPHY ATELIERS” is an exhibition that aims to showcase the graphic techniques developed in the Engraving and Serigraphy Ateliers at ESAD.CR.
A exposição foi inaugurada no dia 22 de Novembro de 212, pelas 18:00 horas, no Museu José Malhoa. A mesma estará patente até dia 20 de Janeiro de 2013.
The opening took place last November 22, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at the José Malhoa Museum and it will be open until January 20, 2013.
A organização resulta de uma parceria entre o no Museu José Malhoa e a Escola Superior de Arte e Design das Caldas da Rainha.
Na exposição estão presentes trabalhos realizados com várias técnicas de gravura, permitindo numa única visita ficar a saber os potenciais das oficinas da área da ESAD.CR.v
The exhibition is the result of a partnership between the José Malhoa Museum and ESAD.CR.
There you can find works done with various engraving techniques, allowing at single visit to find out the potential of ESAD.CR’s ateliers.
A exposição surgiu de um desafio lançado pela Técnica Superior da Oficina de serigrafia e gravura – Vera Gonçalves. A proposta lançada aos alunos foi a concretização de trabalhos que extrapolassem para a atmosfera, criando um ambiente envolvente entre o objeto e o visitante, um espaço místico.
The exhibition arose from a challenge cast by the Technician responsible for the Engraving and Serigraphy Ateliers - Vera Gonçalves. She proposed the students to create an immersive environment between the object and the visitor, a mystical space.

Conference “Predictions only after the game” held by Professor Peter Letria in the auditorium of the EP1 ESAD.CR.
A apresentação “Prognósticos só depois do jogo” foi uma retrospetiva da obra fotográfica do docente, pensada numa cronologia inversa, de 2012 a 1993.
“Predictions only after the game” was a retrospective of the photographic work of the teacher, through a reverse chronology, from 2012 to 1993.
Os trabalhos selecionados foram os mais significativos, os mesmos foram alinhados de modo a explicitar as referências e ideias que os formaram.
The selected works were the most significant; they were aligned to explain the references and ideas that formed it.
Utilizando imagens singulares, capas de livros editados e slides de trabalhos que estiveram na génese das pesquisas visuais do autor, as imagens foram acompanhadas com a sequência visual de um texto inicial e de comentários ao longo da projeção.
Using singular images, book covers and slides of works that were in the genesis of visual research of the author, the images were accompanied with the visual sequence of an initial text and comments along the projection.
As perguntas que se seguiram à apresentação permitiram responder a questões que o contexto das Artes Plásticas viu levantadas pelas imagens e textos e contribuíram muito para o aprofundar de ideias e reflexões antes enunciadas.
The questions that followed allowed to answer questions that the context of the Arts saw raised by images and texts and contributed greatly to the deepening of ideas and reflections listed before.

I Ciclo de Cinema Contemporâneo Português na ESAD.CR com o apoio do Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual e da Secretaria de Estado da Cultura.
1st Contemporary Portuguese Film Festival at ESAD.CR with support from the Cinema and Audiovisual Institute and the Ministry of Culture.
O evento realizou-se nos dias 15, 16 e 17 de outubro, organizado no âmbito da licenciatura em Som e Imagem pelos docentes Nuno Lisboa, Susana Duarte e Diogo Saldanha. Os organizadores pretenderam homenagear e dar a conhecer alguns dos melhores realizadores e filmes portugueses da contemporaneidade.
The event was held from October 15 to 17 and was organized by teachers Nuno Lisboa, Susana Duarte and Diogo Saldanha, within the Sound and Image course. The organizers sought to honor and promote some of the best Portuguese contemporary films and filmmakers.

Após cada exibição seguiu-se um debate com os realizadores. Nas conferências foi debatido o tema do cinema contemporâneo português e foram desvendados alguns dos segredos dos realizadores.
Each exhibition was followed by a conversation with the filmmakers. Portuguese contemporary cinema was debated and some filmmakers unraveled some of their secrets.
Assistiram ao ciclo mais de 700 pessoas durante os três dias, com a presença da comunidade académica e externa, o balanço foi muito positivo, e já se pensa na 2ª edição do ciclo para o próximo ano.
More than 700 people attended the festival over the three days, with the presence of both academic and civil community. The balance was very positive, and we’re already thinking about a 2nd edition next year.

No passado dia 6 de Novembro de 2012 o artista formado pela ESAD.CR/IPL realizou uma conferência incluída no âmbito da cadeira opcional de Artes plásticas de Configuração e Forma a convite do docente Samuel Rama.
Last November 6, 2012, the artist graduated from ESAD.CR / IPL held a conference within the discipline of Visual arts – Configuration and Shape, after the invitation of professor Samuel Rama.
A conferência realizou-se no Auditório do EP 1 das 14:30 às 17:30. Nela o artista plástico Carlos Bunga mostrou uma seleção de trabalhos, desde 2003 até à atualidade.
At the conference, held in the Auditorium of EP 1 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Carlos Bunga showed a selection of his works from 2003 to the present.
Em pouco mais de nove anos de trabalho Carlos Bunga é já detentor de um percurso de assinalável interesse sendo um dos artistas formados pela Esad.cr com maior projeção internacional e por isso marcante no contexto nacional e internacional.
In just over nine years of work Carlos Bunga is already the holder of a remarkable curriculum, being one of the alumni with greater international projection and so striking career in national and international context.

A turma do 3 ano apresentou a peça “(A)tentados” de Martin Crimp da disciplina projeto teatral 3 dirigida pelo prof. André Amálio. A apresentação realizou-se no dia 7 de novembro às 21h00 na sala 16 da ESAD.CR.
Within the discipline of Theatrical Project, taught by prof. André Amálio, the 3rd year class presented the play “Attempts on Her Life” by Martin Crimp. The presentation was held on November 7th at 9:00 p.m. at room 16 of ESAD.CR.
O texto de Martin Crimp (A)tentados (no original Attempts on her life) dá-nos um retrato do mundo contemporâneo através da construção da identidade de Anne. O autor traça-nos um retrato feito de múltiplas fotografias de uma sociedade marcada pela globalização, terrorismo, guerra, media e cultura pop.
Martin Crimp’s play gives us a portrait of the contemporary world through the construction of Anne’s identity. The author draws us a picture made of multiple photographs of a society marked by globalization, terrorism, war, media and pop culture.
Como filosofia de trabalho houve a preocupação de colocar a ênfase nos conceitos da cocriação e da colaboração em conjunto com a direção/encenação deste projeto dando aos alunos um papel mais ativo na construção do exercício, através de improvisações, propostas, discussões e procurando responsabilizar cada aluno enquanto artista de teatro que observa e reflete sobre o mundo que o rodeia.
The philosophy of work was to place the emphasis on the concepts of co-creation and collaboration in conjunction with the direction / staging of this project, thus giving students a more active role in building the exercise through improvisations, proposals and discussions, while trying to make them responsible as theater artists who observe and reflect on the world around them.

Cinco estudantes da Escola Superior de Artes e Design de Caldas da Rainha (ESAD.CR) mostraram o seu talento no Doclisboa’12, 10.º Festival Internacional de Cinema. Carla Fonseca, Samuel Marques, Alexandra de Matos, Luís Almeida e Raquel Ceriz são os jovens realizadores, cujas curtas-metragens foram apresentadas nos dias 20 e 22 de outubro, na Sala 3 do Cinema São Jorge.
Five students from the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha (ESAD.CR) displayed their talent at Doclisboa’12, 10th International Film Festival. Carla Fonseca, Samuel Marques, Alexandra de Matos, Luís Almeida and Raquel Ceriz are the young filmmakers whose short films were presented on 20 and 22 October, in Room 3 at São Jorge Cinema.
Todos os trabalhos dos estudantes da ESAD.CR foram exibidos no âmbito da secção “Verdes Anos”, que apresentou filmes produzidos no contexto de escolas de vídeo, cinema, audiovisuais e comunicação, bem como em cursos de pós-graduação relacionados com o cinema e em particular o cinema documental.
The works of ESAD.CR’s students were displayed on the section “Green Years”, which showed films produced in video, cinema, audiovisual and communication schools, as well as in graduate courses related to film and particularly documentary filmmaking.
“Verdes Anos” procurou sobretudo abrir uma plataforma de diálogo e reflexão em torno dos filmes produzidos, bem como do ensino destas áreas.
“Green Years” has focused in encouraging dialogue and reflection on the films produced, as well as on the teaching of these areas.

A peça de Karl Valentin, Cabaret Majestik, encenada pelo professor Diogo Dória foi apresentada no dia 22 de Junho.
Majestik Cabaret, a play by Karl Valentin, staged by Professor Diogo Dória, was presented on June 22.
Propondo o teatro obrigatório, falando das desventuras do pobre encadernador Wanninger para receber o seu soldo ou da pobre Isabel para conseguir resposta do namorado, o grande Karl Valentin escalpeliza a sociedade do seu tempo, zurze no capitalismo, descobre no humor e no texto curto e incisivo a melhor forma de chegar ao espectador.
Proposing mandatory theater, the play tells of the misfortunes of the poor bookbinder Wanninger to receive his wages or poor Isabel to receive an answer from her boyfriend. Karl Valentin analyses society of his time, beats down capitalism and finds a way to the viewer through humor and the short incisive text.

Scenes of Terror and Misery of the Third Reich.
Cena de Terror e Miséria do III Reich, encenada pela professora Cristina Carvalhal foi adaptada do original do livro “Terror e Miséria no Terceiro Reich”. Obra escrita pelo dramaturgo e poeta alemão Bertolt Brecht.
The play staged by Professor Cristina Carvalhal was adapted from the original book “Terror and Misery in the Third Reich” written by german playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht.
Esta obra tem particularidade de ter sido escrita fazendo uso de recortes de jornal, notícias recebidas da resistência, rádio, ou qualquer outra fonte de informação que fosse levada para fora do domínio alemão.
This play has the particularity to have been written making use of newspaper clippings, news from the resistance, radio, or any other source of information that was taken out of the German dominion.
A obra retrata todo o sufoco que a sociedade viveu durante a 2ª grande guerra. As injustiças, os medos, as traições e os receios de uma época de puro terror.
The play portrays the distresses that the society lived during the 2nd world war, the injustices, betrayals and fears of an age of terror.
A obra foi apresentada pelos alunos do 2º ano do curso de teatro, tendo sido muito bem recebida pelo público presente, que lotou completamente a sala.
The work was presented by 2nd year students of Theater. The play was very well received by the audience, which filled the room completely.

Decorreu uma sessão aberta a todos os caldenses e comunidade académica, para assinalar os 40 anos da representação da peça “Morte e Vida Severina” do poeta brasileiro João Cabral de Melo Neto, que foi representada nas Caldas por um grupo de finalistas da Escola Industrial e Comercial das Caldas da Rainha.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the representation of the play “Morte e Vida Severina” from the Brazilian poet João Cabral de Melo Neto, there was held a session open to all the community performed by a group of finalists from the Industrial and Commercial School of Caldas da Rainha.
Viviam-se nessa época (1971 e 72) os últimos anos da ditadura em Portugal e nesta sessão, pretendeu-se relembrar como se fazia teatro, escapando aos crivos da censura, antes da revolução dos Cravos.
The play depicts the last years of dictatorship in Portugal (1971 and 1972), and this play was intended to recall how theater was done before the Carnation Revolution, escaping the sieves of censorship.
Este evento foi realizado em parceria com a Gazeta das Caldas da Rainha e com o apoio cultural da Fundação Joaquim Nabuco, sediada no Recife.

O documentarista e ensaísta alemão Hartmut Bitomsky, um dos maiores realizadores de documentários da atualidade, realizou uma masterclass de Práticas de Som e Imagem onde abordou as práticas documentais no contexto da pedagogia artística.
The German filmmaker and essayist Hartmut Bitomsky, one of the greatest documentary filmmakers of our time, held a masterclass for Sound and Imaging Practices where he tackled the documentary practices in the context of artistic pedagogy.
A sua relevante obra documental, caracteriza-se por uma permanente interrogação sobre a intervenção das imagens no mundo, procurando desvendar os seus efeitos culturais e históricos. Constitui também, através de uma série de investigações sobre o próprio cinema, uma rara articulação dos gestos crítico, de realização, e pedagógico.
His relevant documentary work is characterized by a permanent inquiry about the role of images in the world, trying to discover their cultural and historical purposes. It is also, through a series of investigations into the cinema itself, a rare conjunction of critical gestures, conducting, and teaching.
Foi precisamente sobre esta confluência, na produção de imagens documentais enquanto prática artística, que incidiu a masterclass, em que se puderam visionar excertos dos seus filmes.
The masterclass focused precisely on this confluence, on the production of documentary images as an artistic practice, using clips of his films.

The academic tradition of the Burning of the Ribbons is a festive week which takes place every year during the month of May. Among various activities, we have the serenade, music concerts and the academic procession.
A bênção das Fitas é uma cerimónia religiosa, onde as pastas dos finalistas são abençoadas, simbolizando a bênção da partida, a finalização de um trajeto e o princípio de uma nova fase.
The blessing of the Ribbons is a religious ceremony, where the ribbons of the graduating students are blessed, symbolizing the blessing of the departure, the end of a journey and the beginning of a new phase.
Alguns alunos da ESAD.CR não quiseram deixar de participar neste evento secular que se realizou em Leiria. Bem-haja a todos os finalistas.

No dia 5 de Maio, na sala 17 do Ep2 da ESAD.CR, os alunos do 2º ano do Curso de Teatro apresentaram ao público peça ” O pecado de João Agonia” de Bernardo Santero. Este projecto teve a direção do Docente Luís Castro.
On May 5, in room 17 of the Ep2 at ESAD.CR, students of 2nd year of Theater presented the play “John Agony’s sin” from Bernardo Santareno. This project was directed by Professor Luís Castro.
Bernardo Santareno é considerado um dos maiores dramaturgos portugueses de sempre e o principal dramaturgo português do sec.XX.
Bernardo Santareno is considered one of the greatest Portuguese playwrights of all times and the main Portuguese playwright of the XX century.
O Pecado de João Agonia, peça fundamental da dramaturgia de Santareno, aborda o tema da homossexualidade e a repressão exercida sobre os homossexuais no Portugal dos anos sessenta do século passado.
John Agony’s sin, a fundamental play of Santareno, addresses the issue of homosexuality and repression of homosexuals in Portugal in the sixties.

“Como Ter Sucesso no Ensino Superior Guia Prático do Estudante – Segundo Bolonha” é um livro escrito pela equipa do Serviço de Apoio ao Estudante (SAPE) do Instituto Politécnico de Leiria- Graça Seco, Luís Filipe, Sandra Alves – Ana Pereira e Ana Duarte.
Sendo o dia-a-dia desta equipa proporcionar aos alunos do IPL uma estadia, durante o seu percurso académico, o mais agradável possível. ESAD.CR/IPL publicou o livro “Roubo” da autoria dos docentes Miguel Castro Caldas e João Salavisa, uma parceria com o Palavrão.
O livro “Roubo” é um documento resultante do projeto homónimo, este inclui a compilação dos textos produzidos na unidade curricular de Práticas de Escritas para Teatro (PEPT), orientada pelo docente Miguel Castro Caldas e também inclui o filme realizado na unidade curricular de Linguagens Cinematográficas (LC) orientada pelo docente João Salavisa, realizadas no âmbito do 1º Ano do Curso de Mestrado de Teatro ESAD.CR/IPL.
ESAD.CR/IPL published the book “Roubo” from the teatchers Miguel Castro Caldas and João Salavisa, in a partnership with the Palavrão.
The book “Roubo” is a resulting document of the homonymous project. It includes a compilation of texts produced in the course unit of Written Practices for the Theatre, directed by professor Miguel Castro Caldas, and also includes a film made in the course unit of Motion Picture Languages -oriented by the professor João Salaviza, carried out under the 1st Year’s Master Degree in Theatre of the ESAD.CR/IPL.
O projeto contou com o apoio da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e do Instituto Politécnico de Leiria.

No dia 5 de Janeiro de 2012, os alunos do 3º ano de Design Gráfico e Multimédia da ESAD.CR/IPL participaram numa conferência e num workshop, sendo o objecto de estudo a tipografia, realizado por Dave Crossland (Inglaterra).
On January 5 of 2012, ESAD.CR/IPL students of the 3rd year of Graphic and Multimedia Design participated in a conference and a workshop, typography was the main subject, conducted by Dave Crossland (England).
O workshop de tipografia teve como base “Collaborative Type Design – Without Computers” e “Google Fonts” foi o cerne da conferência.
The typography workshop was based on “Collaborative Type Design – Without Computers” and “Google Fonts” was the focus of the conference.
Estes dois eventos foram coordenados pelos docentes: Aprígio Morgado, Rúben Dias e Ricardo Santos do Curso de Design Gráfico e Multimédia.

Esta homenagem deveu-se a cessação das funções públicas do docente por motivo de aposentação. Dedicação, disponibilidade e lealdade, foram as qualidades reveladas ao longo de 20 anos da sua carreira que em muito contribuíram para a construção da Escola.
This tribute resulted from cessation of the public service of teachers due to retirement. Dedication, willingness and loyalty were the qualities revealed over 20 years of his career, which greatly contributed to the construction of the School.
Desempenhou, para além da apaixonada atividade docente, os cargos de Coordenador de Área Científica de Artes Plásticas, de Presidente do Conselho Pedagógico, de Presidente do Conselho Científico e integrou diversas comissões de trabalho tendo sido determinante na estrutura Científico-Pedagógica da área da História da Arte da ESAD.CR.
Performed, in addition to the passionate teaching activity, the positions of Coordinator of the Scientific Area of Fine Arts, President of the Pedagogical Council, President of the Scientific Council and a member of various committees work was instrumental in the structure of the Scientific-Pedagogical area of Art History of ESAD.CR.

December 20, 2011 – Students Work of Graphic and Multimedia Design Show.
O evento consistiu numa mostra de Videopoemas criados por alunos do 1º ano de Mestrado de Design Gráfico. Simultaneamente no átrio do auditório 1, ocorreu a exposição dos alunos do 1º e 3º anos da licenciatura de Design Gráfico e Multimédia.
The event consisted of a Videopoems sample created by the 1st year students of the Master of Graphic Design. Simultaneously in the lobby of the 1st auditorium an exposure of students of the 1st and 3rd years of the undergraduate Graphic and Multimedia Design.
Esta mostra teve como coordenação o docente João Vinagre.

“Outros Filmes” – Obras audiovisuais realizadas por autores independentes.
“Outros Filmes” – Audiovisual works made by independent authors.
As 3 sessões consistiram na projeção de obras audiovisuais realizadas por autores exteriores ao meio académico/profissional do cinema (teatro, artes plásticas, literatura). Após a exibição de cada filme o autor comentava a experiência da realização de um filme sem ter uma estreita ligação ao mundo cinema, seguindo-se um debate entre autor e público.
The 3 sessions consisted in the projection of audiovisual works made by authors outside the academic / professional cinema (theater, visual arts, and literature). After viewing each film the author commented the experience of making a film without having a close connection to the world cinema, followed by a debate between author and audience.
Foram apresentados os seguintes filmes:
. «Teatro» (película, 16mm) realizado pelo Projecto Teatral e com a presença dos autores (22 Nov.);
. «Gigante» (película, 16mm); realizado por Francisco Tropa e com a presença do autor (23 Nov.);
. «Film» realizado por Samuel Beckett com apresentação do Professor Tomás Maia da FBAUL (25 Nov.).
Estes eventos tiveram o apoio do Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual – ICA – e da Casa da Presidência da República.

Exhibition NA GAVETA DAS OFICINAS DE SERIGRAFIA E GRAVURA, OGIVA Gallery.
A exposição NA GAVETA DAS OFICINAS DE SERIGRAFIA E GRAVURA, surgiu com o intuito de mostrar os trabalhos arquivados no Arquivo das Oficinas de Serigrafia e Gravura da ESAD.CR. Estes trabalhos foram desenvolvidos entre 2008 e 2011, em disciplinas lecionadas nos cursos de Artes Plásticas, Design Gráfico e Multimédia e no Curso de Especialização Tecnológica em Ilustração Gráfica (CETS). Todos estes trabalhos foram “retirados das gavetas” do Arquivo das Oficinas de Serigrafia e Gravura.
The exhibition NA GAVETA DAS OFICINAS DE SERIGRAFIA E GRAVURA, came up with the aim to show the work archived in the ESAD.CR workshops of screen printing and engraving. These works were developed between 2008 and 2011, in subjects of the Fine Arts courses, Graphic and Multimedia Design and Technological Specialization in Graphic Illustration (CETS). All these works were “removed from the drawers” of the Screen Printing and Engraving Workshop Archive.
Estas gavetas compõem um Arquivo comum a todas as unidades curriculares no âmbito das Artes Plásticas e do Design, que começou por ser organizado pela professora Célia Bragança, e depois pela técnica superior Vera Gonçalves.
These drawers compose a common archive to all units courses of Fine Arts and Design. It began to be organized by the professor Celia Bragança, and later by the technical Vera Gonçalves.
Cada trabalho é como um “bilhete de identidade” de cada aluno que desenvolve trabalho neste espaço oficinal. É escolhida a prova que mais se identifica com este.
Each work becomes as an “identity card” for each student who develop work in this space. It is chosen the work that most identifies with the student.
Esta exposição não só identifica a passagem do aluno como também oferece um panorama das diversas possibilidades criativas das técnicas de impressão manual, aplicadas nos trabalhos desenvolvidos em cada unidade curricular. Nela são apresentados trabalhos que usam as técnicas de Xilogravura, Linóleogravura, Gravura em Ponta Seca, Água-forte, Água-tinta, Verniz Mole, Colagraf, Fotogravura e Serigrafia em papel, tecido e espelho.
This exhibition not only identifies the passage of the student but also provides an overview of the various creative possibilities of manual printing techniques, applied on work annually in each course. Here are presented works that use the techniques of Woodcuts, Linocuts, Dry Point Engraving, Etching, Aquatint, Varnish Mole Colagraf, and Photogravure Printing on Paper, Fabric and Glass.
Estas técnicas exploram universos visuais onde a sobreposição da cor, a textura, densidade, contraste e a ausência da cor são trabalhadas de forma a explorar a aleatoriedade e o inesperado no surgimento de imagens, em simultâneo com gestos de grande precisão e rigor técnico.
These techniques exploit visual worlds where the overlap of color, texture, density, contrast and absence of color are worked to exploit the randomness and the unexpected appearance of the images, along with gestures of great precision and technical accuracy.

“There Are Many Ways to Make a Cake” – esta exposição reuniu obras de alunos com diferentes níveis de experiência nas áreas da impressão, tais como: alguns na iniciação, apenas com um semestre a frequentar a disciplina de Printmaking; outros com formação mais avançada, durante dois ou três semestres; e mais três alunos convidados do mestrado em Artes Plásticas.
“There are Many Ways to Make a Cake” – this exhibition brought together works of students with different levels of expertise in engraving, such as: some in the initiation, with only a semester to attend in the subject of Printmaking, others with more advanced training for two or three semesters; and were invited more three Fine Arts Master Students.

“Festival Ofélia – Intercâmbio de Teatro na ESAD.CR”.
“Ophelia Festival – Exchange Theatre in ESAD.CR”.
O Festival Ofélia foi um desafio lançado pelos alunos do curso de Teatro da ESAD.CR, que se aliaram entre si e ao objectivo proposto para a concretização do primeiro festival de intercâmbio de teatro realizado por alunos da ESAD.CR, fora do âmbito curricular.
The Ofélia Festival was a challenge for students of Theater of ESAD.CR, who joined together to the proposed target for the achievement of the first festival of exchange of theater performed by students from ESAD.CR, outside of the curriculum.
O programa teve como palco a: ESAD.CR, o Teatro da Rainha e o Centro Cultural de Caldas da Rainha (CCC). O programa abrangeu uma diversidade de atividades diretamente ligadas à arte de representar, desde seminários, workshops e performances que permitiram aos participantes devanear pelo mundo do teatro.
The program had the stage: ESAD.CR, Teatro da Rainha and Cultural Centre of Caldas da Rainha (CCC). The program covered a variety of activities directly linked to the art of acting, from seminars, workshops and performances that allowed participants to wander through the world of theater.
Este ano o festival teve a honra de ter a presença de alunos da Universidade de Évora, o grupo Évora Shirê Obá. “A Festa do Rei” foi a peça escolhida para o palco da comunidade caldense, esta acalmou de pé o profissionalismo irredutível demonstrado.
This year the festival had the honor of having the presence of students at the Évora University, Évora Shire Oba group. “The Festivity of the King” was the piece chosen for its presentation in the stage of the Caldas community and it was calmed standing the uncompromising professionalism demonstrated.
As apresentações dos nossos alunos deixaram as plateias ao rubro. Assistiu-se a momentos memoráveis e dignificantes, representações de alto nível relevando o grande potencial do curso de teatro da ESAD.CR, assim como dos seus alunos.
The presentations of our students have left audiences alight. There have been memorable moments and dignified, high-level representations revealing the great potential of Theater course of ESAD.CR as well as their students.

Esta sessão foi dedicada à leitura do poema Vertumno, de Joseph Brodsky, pelo professor Diogo Dória.

“A poesia é o seguro que temos contra a vulgaridade do coração humano” (Joseph Brodsky 1991).
O actor e professor Diogo Dória fez jus à frase anteriormente referida pelo autor do poema, a sua declamação atingiu o interesse dos corações presentes com alma e profissionalismo.
“Poetry is the insurance we have against the vulgarity of the human heart” (Joseph Brodsky 1991).
The actor and teacher Diogo Dória lived up to previous sentence mentioned by the author of the poem, his recitation reached the interest of these hearts with soul and professionalism.

O desenvolvimento e a rápida expansão das novas tecnologias de Informação e de Comunicação e a passagem para uma sociedade de informação, digital ou de rede, em que a Internet e a World Wide Web assumem uma especial importância, têm levantado diversas questões sobre a natureza e funções do livro tal como tradicionalmente o temos conhecido e mesmo sobre o seu eventual desaparecimento.
A palestra com José Afonso Furtado ocorreu no dia 20 de Maio de 2011, no auditório da ESAD.CR.
Nota Biográfica do autor:
José Afonso Furtado é licenciado em Filosofia, trabalhou em diversos organismos governamentais na área da cultura. Entre 1987 e 1991 foi presidente do Instituto Português do Livro e da Leitura. Entre 1998 e 2007 integrou o Conselho Superior de Bibliotecas. Actualmente pertence à Comissão de Honra do Plano Nacional de Leitura, é director da Biblioteca de Arte da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (desde 1992) e docente do curso de Pós-Graduação em Edição – Livros e Novos Suportes Digitais, da Faculdade de Ciências Humanas da Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
Já publicou obras como “O Que é o Livro”, “Os Livros e as Leituras: Novas Ecologias da Informação”, “O Papel e o Pixel: Do Impresso ao Digital – Continuidades e Transformações”.
The development and rapid expansion of new technologies of information and communication and a shift to an information society, digital or network, in which the Internet and World Wide Web with a particular importance, have raised several questions about the nature and functions of the book as we have traditionally known and even on their eventual disappearance.
The lecture with José Afonso Furtado was held on May 20, 2011 in the ESAD.CR’s auditorium.
Authors Biographical Note:
José Afonso Furtado have a Philosophy degree , worked in several government agencies in the culture’s area . Between 1987 and 1991 was president of the Portuguese Institute of Book and Reading. Between 1998 and 2007 he joined the Board of Libraries. Today belongs to the Honorary Committee of the National Reading Plan, is director of the Art Library of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (since 1992) and professor of the Graduate Course in Editing – Digital Books and New Media, Faculty of Humanities of the Portuguese Catholic University.
He has published works such as “What is a Book”, “Books and Reading: New Information Ecologies”, “Paper and Pixel: From Printed to Digital – Continuities and Transformations”.

De 29 de Abril a 15 de Maio de 2011 esteve patente em Lisboa uma exposição representativa do percurso de 20 Anos da ESAD.CR no âmbito das Artes Plásticas.
From April 29 to May 15, 2011 it was patent in Lisbon an exhibition representing the 20 Years ESAD.CR under the Fine Arts course.
Desta exposição fizeram parte obras de 84 autores, alunos e ex-alunos da escola de artes de caldas da Rainha, estiveram expostos em 5300 metros quadrados do edifício XXI, no Pólo Tecnológico de Lisboa-Carnide.
Took part in this exhibition works of 84 authors, students and alumni of the school of Arts of Caldas da Rainha, were exposed in 5300 meters in the square building in the Technopolis XXI Lisbon-Carnide.
Alguns dos artistas que participaram nesta mostra já são nomes reconhecidos no meio nacional e são também representados por galerias de referência em Portugal e no estrangeiro, bem como em colecções privadas e institucionais.

No dia 4 de Maio a ESAD.CR recebeu no seu auditório o célebre fotógrafo Jem Southam. Na comunicação ele apresentou algumas das séries que tem desenvolvido desde meados dos anos 80 do séc. XX.
On May 4 the famous photographer Jem Southam was at ESAD.CR. He presented some of the series that he has developed since the mid eighties.
Jem Southam, nasceu em Bristol, Inglaterra, em 1950. A última exposição individual do fotógrafo foi na edição do Photoespanha de 2010, em Madrid, onde apresentou “Jem Southam: British landscapes”. Das exposições individuais recentes pode-se destacar: “Clouds descending” no Lowry Museum, Salford Quays, Manchester, 2008; “Upton Pyne”, no Victoria & Albert Museum, Londres em 2005; “From A Distance: An Industrial Landscape” na Tate St. Ives, 2004. Exposições que têm circulado por: Austrália, Bélgica, Estados Unidos da América, França.
Jem Southam was born in Bristol, England in 1950. His last solo exhibition was held in Photoespanha 2010 in Madrid, where he presented “Jem Southam: British landscapes.” From his recent solo exhibitions we highligh: “Clouds descending” at the Lowry Museum, Salford Quays, Manchester, 2008; “Upton Pyne” in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London in 2005; “From A Distance: An Industrial Landscape” at the Tate St. Ives, 2004. Este projecto surge da interacção entre alunos da primeira turma de Design Gráfico pós-laboral e o docente Nuno Fragata.
This project arises from the interaction between students of the first evening class of Graphic Design and teacher Nuno Fragata.
O ponto de partida foi a noção de convite como algo que aguarda resposta, provoca uma reacção ou lança promessas, enganos… “O que é um convite?” Eminentemente gráfico e aberto, cada proposta a esta questão entra em diálogo com o espaço físico (a arquitectura da Galeria novaOgiva em Óbidos) e o processo de trabalho de cada designer participante. Tentativa. Erro. Opção. Tempo. Caminho. Avanço. Retrocesso. Ponto de situação. Tempo. Novo acto criativo, nova resposta. Pausa, respiração. Tentativa. Erro. Tempo. O ciclo repete-se. Em espiral, nunca em círculo. Nada se fecha.
The starting point was the notion of invitation as something that expects an answer, it causes a reaction or releases promises, deceit … “What is an invitation?” Eminently graphic and open, every proposal on this issue enters into dialogue with the physical space (the architecture of the novaOgiva Gallery in Obidos) and the working process of each participating designer. Attempt. Error. Option. Time. Path. Advancement. Rewind. Current situation. Time. New creative act, a new solution. Pause, breathe. Attempt. Error. Time. The cycle repeats itself. Spiral, never in a circle. Nothing ends.
18 pessoas partilham um mesmo espaço, a Galeria ganha nova vida (temporária) enquanto atelier. Criativos alimentam a existência da espiral, por partilha, dão-lhe combustível e na repetição de ciclos esta afunila, encontra o devido caminho. A opção torna-se certeza. Em resposta ao briefing, a intenção inicial ganha vida enquanto objecto gráfico.
18 people share the same space, the gallery gets new life (temporarily) as a studio. Creative fuel the spiral of existence, of sharing, give it fuel and the repetition of this cycle tapers, find the right way. The option becomes certainty. In response to the briefing, the initial intention comes to life as an graphic object.
Na interacção com o espaço físico, o objecto gráfico liberta-se dos seus limites e expande, absorve, ramifica-se. Por vezes contrai-se, densifica-se, ganha aura. Outras vezes encontramo-lo algures num caminho próprio, não terminado, semi-resolvido entre um mundo de ideias e um mundo físico. Ainda não designado mas em processo de o ser. E o processo é o que levamos connosco ao fim destes dias.
In the interaction with physical space, the graphic object frees itself from its limits and expands, absorbs, branches out. Sometimes it contracts, densifies, wins aura. Sometimes we find it somewhere in a proper way, not finished, semi-settled between a world of ideas and a physical world. Not yet known but in the process of being. And the process is what we take with us to the end of days.

On January 25, 2011, at the Capelos’ room at the University of Coimbra, professor of ESAD.CR – Rui Leal, received his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering in the specialty of Production Technology with a thesis entitled “Friction Stir Welding of Low Thickness Elements.” The thesis was approved with distinction and praise.

Exhibition projects for the ESAD.CR reception – Environment Design.
No corrente semestre os alunos do curso de Design de Ambientes desenvolveram um projecto que pretende repensar a recepção da ESAD.CR.
In the current semester, the students of the Environment Design developed a plan to rethink the ESAD.CR’s reception.
O resultado foram 12 propostas que pensam a localização da recepção no edifício, adaptando-se às dinâmicas funcionais associadas a este espaço.
The result were 12 proposals that they think the location of the reception’s building, adapting to the dynamics associated with this functional space.
Destas 12 propostas irá ser feita uma selecção das que poderão ser passíveis de ser construídas. A exposição esteve patente de 17 a 21 de Janeiro de 2011, na recepção do EP1 da ESAD.CR.
Of these 12 proposals, it will be made a selection of which may be available to be built. The exhibition was patent for 17 to 21 January 2011, at the reception of the EP1, ESAD.CR.

No passado dia 14 de Dezembro de 2010, a ESAD.CR teve a honra de receber o autor Rui A. Pereira para o lançamento do seu livro “PENSAR.TE”. Uma iniciativa de prestígio em termos editoriais que enriqueceu o campo teórico das Artes Plásticas em Portugal.
“Entrar no universo da criação, na sua contemporaneidade. De forma contígua esta obra apresenta-nos uma selecção, de textos e imagens, construída ao longo de doze anos: um contributo para o entendimento da importância da obra recente de muitos autores do nosso presente temporal. São centenas os artistas que participaram, individual e/ou colectivamente, num projecto direccionado especialmente para uma maior sensibilização e gosto pela arte.”
A edição destaca e refere, nas suas páginas, um docente da ESAD.CR e a própria ESAD.CR.
On last December 14, 2010, the ESAD.CR was honored to receive the author Rui A. Pereira for the launch of his book “PENSAR.TE”. An initiative in terms of prestige editorial that enriched the theoretical field of fine arts in Portugal.
“Enter the world of creation in their contemporaneity. Contiguously, this work presents us with a selection of texts and images, built over twelve years: a contribution to understanding the importance of the recent work of many authors of our present time. Hundreds artists who participated, individually and/or collectively, in a project aimed specifically to raise awareness and appreciation of art. “

O Toma Lá Arte é um evento cultural que tem como objectivo dinamizar a cidade das Caldas da Rainha, juntando vários tipos de público e artistas. Surgiu como necessidade de ter acesso a vários trabalhos de estudantes da ESAD.CR que não são divulgados.
“Toma Lá Arte” is a cultural event that aims to streamline the city of Caldas da Rainha, by adding various types of audiences and artists. Emerged as a necessity have access to several works of students from ESAD.CR that are not disclosed.
No Toma Lá Arte os estudantes expuseram os seus trabalhos no Centro da Juventude de Caldas da Rainha, onde competiram em várias categorias. Para além da exposição existiram ainda aulas abertas, exibições de vídeos e festas. A 2ª edição decorreu nos dias 6, 7, 8 e 9 de Dezembro de 2010.
In “Toma lá Arte” the students exhibited their work at Youth Centre of Caldas da Rainha and where they competed in various categories. Besides the exhibition there was still open classes, exhibitions and video festivals. The second edition took place on 6, 7, 8 and 9 December 2010.
A gala “Toma Lá Arte” ocorreu no dia 9 de Dezembro de 2010, no auditório EP1 da ESAD.CR. Na sua realização estiveram envolvidos todos os cursos leccionados na ESAD.CR:

Durante o jantar, realizado na cantina do Campus 3 da ESAD.CR, os participantes saborearam o jantar, com uma ementa especial elaborada pelo Serviço de Acção Social do IPL, ao som de música ao vivo.
During the dinner, held in the cafeteria of the Campus 3, ESAD.CR, participants relished the dinner with a special menu prepared by the IPL’s Office for Social Action, with live music.

The gala was an audience of over 300 people including students, guests and onlookers.
Esta iniciativa é de louvar. O ditado “ A união faz a força” foi de facto o lema desta iniciativa. O profissionalismo dos nossos alunos foi posto à prova e venceram com muito brio.
This initiative is commendable. The saying “Unity is strength” was in fact the motto of this initiative. The professionalism of our students was put to the test and won with great pride.

Masterclass “Animation, The Movement is Born of Imagine“.
Decorreu no passado dia 3 de Novembro uma Masterclass no âmbito do evento “Novembro, o Mês da Animação”, organizado pelo Clube de Cinema de Animação – E. Motion, com o apoio da Associação de Estudantes. Presidido pelo professor Fernando Galrito, este evento, que contou também com a participação de membros do E. Motion, decorreu no Auditório 2 da ESAD.CR entre as 17h00 e as 19h30, e esteve aberto a toda a comunidade escolar.
On the last 3rd of November in the event “November, the Month of Animation” a Masterclass organized by the Club of Animated Film – E. Motion, with support from the Student Association. Chaired by Professor Fernando Galrito, this event, which was also attended by members of the E. Motion, held in the Auditorium 2 of the ESAD.CR, between 5p.m and 7:30p.m, and was open to the entire school community.
O tema, “Animação, O Movimento Que Nasce do Imaginar”, incidiu sobretudo numa abordagem abrangente e elucidativa sobre o acto de animar para cinema, e de como este diverge na técnica e na forma. O movimento como acção significativa na representação da arte de animar foi o mote principal pelo qual esta Masterclass se orientou. Contextualizando o surgimento da animação pelas artes cinematográficas e pelo contributo das Artes Plásticas, foram apresentados exemplos de animações feitas para filmes de diferentes suportes e de diferentes estilos.
The theme, “Animation,The Movement is Born of Imagine“, focused primarily on a comprehensive and informative about the act of animating for cinema, and how it differs in technique and form. The movement as a significant action in the representation of the art of animation was the main motto by which this Masterclass was oriented. Contextualizing the emergence of the animation by the cinematography arts and by the contribution of the Fine Arts, there were presented examples of animations made for films of different media and different styles.

A exposição Livro de Autor ocorreu no CCC – Centro Cultural e Congressos em Caldas da Rainha, no mês de Setembro de 2010.
The exhibition Author’s Book occurred in the CCC – Cultural Center and Congresses in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, in September of 2010.
Tendo como ponto de partida a ideia de um livro como obra de arte, nesta exposição foram mostrados vários projectos de alunos finalistas do curso de Artes Plásticas cujo suporte tem a forma de um livro.
Taking as its starting point the idea of a book as a work of art, in this exhibition were shown the various projects of final year students of Fine Arts degree whose support takes the form of a book.
Estavam patentes livros em forma de arquivo, livros que são simultaneamente pinturas, livros que registam a performance, livros que são transformados em escultura…
They were books in archive form, books that are simultaneously paintings, book which record the performance, books that are transformed into sculpture…

Esta mostra foi uma síntese do trabalho realizado no ano lectivo de 2009/10, por cerca de duas dezenas de alunos do curso de Design Cerâmica e Vidro.
This show was a synthesis of work done during the academic year 2009/10, by about two dozen students of Ceramics and Glass Design.
Os trabalhos expostos foram realizados no âmbito das actividades lectivas de diferentes unidades curriculares das áreas de Projecto e de Tecnologias de Produção do curso de Design Cerâmica e Vidro.
The exhibited works were undertaken as part of school activities in different areas of the curricular units of Project and Production Technology of the Ceramic and Glass Design Course.

Durante o mês de Junho de 2010 os alunos do mestrado em Teatro participaram enquanto actores e técnicos na rodagem de uma curta-metragem com realização de João Salaviza, docente do mestrado e premiado com a Palma de Ouro para Curtas-metragens na edição de 2009 do Festival de Cannes.
During the month of June the students of the master in theater participed as actors and technicians involved in shooting a short film with a performance of João Salaviza, professor of the Masters and won the Palme d’Or for Short Film at the 2009 Festival Cannes.
O projecto recorreu a um “décor” natural na zona da Lagoa de Óbidos.
The project used a natural “décor” in the zone of Lagoa de Óbidos, Portugal.

No dia 30 de Junho de 2010 a comunidade académica e público em geral teve a oportunidade de assistir a um desfile de moda completamente inovador.
On June 30 2010 the academic community and the general public had the opportunity to attend a completely innovator fashion show.
Esta iniciativa foi desenvolvida pelos alunos do 2º ano Design de Cerâmica e Vidro, sob a tutela do docente Nicolas Taylor. Este desfile teve a simbiose de dois cursos: Teatro e Design de Cerâmica e Vidro.
This initiative was developed by the students of 2nd year Ceramics and Glass Design, under the tutelage of teacher Nicolas Taylor. This parade had the symbiosis of two courses: Theatre and Ceramics and Glass Design.
Em vez das usuais matérias de moda, o público encantou-se com a mostra de design feita em porcelana.
Instead of the usual subjects of fashion, the public was enchanted with the show design made in porcelain.

No mês de Junho de 2010, numa das salas laboratoriais do curso de Teatro da ESAD.CR, foram realizados 3 espectáculos com as Canções Heróicas de Fernando Lopes-Graça (1906-1994), um dos maiores compositores portugueses do Século XX e uma figura singular da cultura portuguesa em geral.
In June 2010, in one of the workrooms of the Theatre’s course ESAD.CR, it was performed three shows, Canções Heróicas by Fernando Lopes-Graça (1906-1994), one of the greatest portuguese composers of the twentieth century and a singular figure of the Portuguese culture in general.
O espectáculo, uma versão cénico-musical das célebres canções para vozes e piano, foi concebido como exercício performativo no âmbito da Cadeira de Encenação do 2º ano do curso de Teatro (2º semestre 2009/2010), leccionada pelo Docente José Eduardo Rocha, que também o dirigiu e encenou.
The show, was a scenic-musical version of the famous songs for voices and piano, was conceived as a performative exercise in the chair of “Encenação” Staging the 2nd year of the Theatre’s course (2nd semester 2009/2010). Taught by Professor José Eduardo Rocha, who also directed and staged.
Com um elenco de intérpretes e com uma equipa técnica constituída por alunos e ex-alunos dos cursos de Teatro, Som e Imagem e Artes Plásticas.
With a cast of performers and a technical team consisting of students and former students of Theatre, Sound and Image, and Fine Arts.

Como forma de promover e potenciar o ensino da tipografia no nosso país, a ESAD.CR realizou em 28 de Maio de 2010, um ciclo de conferências e debate em torno do ensino da tipografia em Portugal, tendo convidado professores de várias escolas de ensino superior de todo o país.
As a way to promote and enhance the teaching of typography in our country, ESAD.CR held on May 28, 2010, a series of conferences and debates around the teaching of typography in Portugal, and invited teachers from various schools of higher education across the country.

O Dia Internacional Foi Aqui!
The International Day Happened Here!
A ESAD.CR/IPL tomou a iniciativa de realizar um Dia Internacional, que teve lugar nos dias 20 e 21 de Maio de 2010, com o objectivo principal de proporcionar a toda a comunidade um encontro de diversidade cultural.
The ESAD.CR/IPL has taken the initiative to realize an International Day, held on 20 and 21 May 2010, with the primary purpose of providing to the all community a meeting of cultural diversity.
O programa passou por sessões de divulgação sobre temas relacionados com a mobilidade, com a presença das agências nacionais da área; sessões de troca de experiências e debate apresentado pelos estudantes, sobre as suas vivências no período da mobilidade; o Momento Europa, o Momento América; o Momento África e o Momento Ásia; como também exposições de trabalhos dos estudantes Outgoing e Incoming e de material de divulgação de cada país parceiro na mobilidade.
The program went through dissemination sessions on topics related to mobility, with the presence of national agencies in the area; sessions to exchange experiences and debate presented by students about their experiences during the period of mobility, the European Moment, the America’s Moment ; the Africa’s Moment and the Asia’s Moment, as well as exhibitions of student work Outgoing and Incoming and published material from each partner country mobility.
À noite o público foi presenteado com uma “noite internacional”. Das 22h00 até as 4h00 puderam dançar ao som de várias bandas e DJs nacionais e internacionais.
In the evening the audience was presented with an “international night”. From 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. the public could dance to national and international bands and DJs.

O Indie apresentou-se aos nossos alunos, no sentido de aproxima-los do Festival Internacional de Cinema Independente através de uma conversa informal com um dos directores – Miguel Valverde, seguida de uma exibição de curtas-metragens representativas da cinematografia que o Indie Lisboa apresenta anualmente.
The Indie presented to our students, to approach them from the International Independent Film Festival through an informal conversation with one of the directors – Miguel Valverde, then a showing of short films representing the cinematography presents Indie Lisboa annually.
